I believe you can link your USD bank in Paypal, add money to your Paypal, transfer currency within Paypal, link your AUS account and then deposit. Or just go on a crazy ozbargain spree using Paypal.
transferwise and if you join via a reference offer you may get your first transfer fee free (upto a limit) — use ozbargain random reference link.
I used to know someone a few years ago who would get Amex traveller’s cheques issued from their US bank (commission free) and deposit them into an Aussie bank at the daily exchange rate (also commission free). Was never a problem or declarable as the transactions were always <10K, but I expect the banks (and gov) have probably cracked down on that loophole since then.
Use Transferwise, they'll issue you with your own Routing number and bank account. Transfer the money to that account, then transfer to your Aus account.
They provide the best rates.
Forget PayPal, they'll rip you off.
+1 TransferWise

1st DO NOT use a BANK to transfer!!!!!
I am using world first, no fee but the do have a slightly lower conversion rate than most places I look online. I placed an order via the phone telling my contact what rate I wanted transferred at, when they get to my chosen rate they send me banking details to send the USD to then they transfer it to my AU bank. Need to set up an account online to get your personal world first rep, they contact you after you set up your account. I looked at avg history rate in past 6 months to decide the rate I wanted. But I am in no hurry, the lower your rate the quicker the transfer occurs.
I'll buy your USD at the exchange rate that Google sets at the time of the transaction (right now 1 USD = 1.42 AUD). I have a US bank account with simple.com.
Let me know.
AUD is at a good rate now to convert usd to aud.
check out OFX or transferwise.
otherwise plenty of posts around here for Citibank global accounts or similar.
