Ordered Brake Rotors for Car - Didn't Fit

Hi.

Not sure if I have a leg to stand on in terms of returning these rotors. I had ordered to from spare parts centre, with the guidance of the manufacturers website and that own internal one it. It points to a particular product. I have tried to fit these over the weekend and founded that they are too big fit.

Spare parts place have mentioned there's no returns on these orders, do I have any chance of returning these?

update, have spoken to the seller and he has agreed to take them back.

Did you ask for the parts or did the spares shop recommend the parts?

    • asked for the part, but on their website it recommends XX part. including the manufacturers website.

  • Of course you have a CHANCE of returning them, but it might cost you a restocking or return shipping fee. Returning for $0 seems unlikely but it’s still possible if the rotors are for a common car that the let’s place could sell quickly.

Something in the ACL says that the parts must be fit for purpose. If their system told you that these were the right ones and you ordered them based off their information, they have to get you the correct items. Yours have to be returned in their original and/or resellable condition.

You are better off trying to get them replaced for the right items than to seek a refund. That might make a difference if the sale stays and they just have to get the right parts.

Or like others have said, you may have to eat the re-stocking fee.

    • not really after a refund, just the right part.

      • When you say too big, do you mean diameter, width or offset??

And if you take them back and explain that you just wish to exchange them for the right discs, they may be happy with that, but there may still be an exchange/restock/freight fee.

        • width, i think the correct width for my car is 296mm not 320mm as per website or parts place.

          • @godofpizza: From what I can gather, it's a bit vague. Almost all of the brake rotors I can find for your vehicle are 296, not 320. Only one was the 320. And without knowing more, it's not easy to tell.

I would just wrap them back up the best you can, give the store a call and just ask to exchange them for the right ones. If they won't fit your car, they can't just tell you "tough break" if their site told you what to buy.

  • What Car/Model/Year?

Feed it into "MyGarage" at https://www.supercheapauto.com.au and see what they say…

    • dualis 2012 + 2 ( 7 seater)

      https://dba.com.au/products/catalogue/dba-part-finder/?view=…

says 2329 will fit but the calipers mount hold fit with this rotor. i don't really want to change the calipers.

    • it mentions the 320mm will fit my car

      • Some variants come with smaller/bigger calipers.

It fits your car but your calipers don't fit over the rotor. It could still be a mistake on the website but buying the right part for you car is always buyer's responsibility.

If you're not sure, use a paid service.

        • That doesn't sound right, under Australian Consumer Guarantee, "Products must also be fit for the purpose the business told you it would be fit for and for any purpose that you made known to the business before purchasing".

OP "with the guidance of the manufacturers website and that own internal one it. It points to a particular product. I have tried to fit these over the weekend and founded that they are too big fit". If the website didn't list specific variants with different calipers, sounds like OP has grounds to claim back a refund or suitable replacement part.

            1. Fit for purpose of replacing a 320mm rotor of the variant OP assumed.

            2. OP did not know which one he/she needed and by extension, the business was not made known of the exact purpose.

@[Deactivated]: next time, i'll just bring in the rotor.

              • @godofpizza: Or at least just measure it…

But yes, safer to have them look at the details and order it for you.

              • +1

@godofpizza: That's what I do when in doubt or too lazy to check.

If you brought the rotor in and they gave you the wrong item, you'd be very well within your rights to seek a remedy.

@[Deactivated]: problem is that I only have one car and that's the one being serviced on. yes it easy for the seller to ask you to bring in the parts that need replacing. But the fact that none of the stores i called had this part in stock and i wasn't willing enough to leave it on a jack/stand remove my wheel/calipers if to show them.

People should have some confidence the people who are selling parts know that they can look up a reference book for information is somewhat true.

anyway the seller has agreeded to replace it so it a happy ending.

@[Deactivated]: A company/business cannot disclaim its liability and responsibility under Australian Consumer Law (law of the land).

The way I see it is that Business advertised that the part is fit for Dualis. OP bought it on the basis that the business says it fits a Dualis.

              • +1

@trex: Whilst part of the disclaimer tries to circumvent the ACL, in OPs case, it likely isn't.

There are variants within the Dualis model hence a 320mm and 296mm option was available.

You cannot hold a business responsible to know which variant you own. The business has made a presumption to the best of their ability and has narrowed it down to two options. If OP was unsure, the option to have a mechanic verify was available, ie, there was no pressure to secure the item.

                • +1

@[Deactivated]: I fail to see why you brought up the disclaimer in the first place? Disclaimer can never circumvent ACL no matter the circumstances so there is no "tries to circumvent". If there is a contradiction against ACL in a disclaimer, the disclaimer is null and void (hence law of the land).

Were there 2 options in DB's website? To be frank, I didn't check it and relied on OP's comment that he bought it as he was pointed "to a particular product". If DB claimed the part can fit Dualis (without mentioning model year, variant etc) and it doesn't fit, then DB misrepresented its product and failed in selling a product fit for purpose to godofpizza.

If you can show them that their website recommends the wrong caliper then you are entitled to an exchange.
If you screwed up, wrong car model etc.. then it is up the discretion of the retailer.

    • +1

Going by the link the OP sent above, there are 2 different caliper sizes for his car. It was OPs duty to work out which one he wanted before ordering them.

  • Looks like you wanted the 2316 not the 2329.

Did you order them online or in-store? And where they ordered in for you or were they off the shelf?

    • in-store but it had to be shipped from a different location.
