15% off Samsung Portable SSD T5 Metallic Red and Rose Gold - 500GB $143.65, 1TB $288.15 @ Samsung Online

170

I was going through my promotional emails and came across one from Samsung for Mother's Day. Their online store is having 15% off the RRP on the Samsung T5 SSD in colours only available on the Samsung Online Store - Metallic Red and Rose Gold - only available in 500GB and 1TB. This portable SSD usually comes in Alluring Blue for 250GB and 500GB or in Deep Black for the 1TB and 2TB models. I think this pretty great for those who want more colour choice than the original two colours!

Prices are the same for 500GB/1TB:
* 500GB - $143.65 (save $25 was $169)
* 1TB - $288.15 (save $51 was $339)
Note: 500GB is slightly cheaper per GB than the 1TB.

Links for each colour:
* Metallic Red
* Rose Gold

Promotion ends 11.59pm (AEST) on 12th May!

      You probably missed the bit about the two colours Red and Gold available only from Samsung’s Online Store (for now?) so it’s not a valid comparison.

      • $135/$271 from Samsung EPP, same colours.

        • Where can I get Red/Gold for cheaper than O.P.?

        • Would be great if only I had that sort of connection.

    For comparison, umart has the 500GB (blue) @ $149 and the 1TB (black) @. $299.

    Bing Lee however, as the 1 TB @$269 https://www.binglee.com.au/samsung-1tb-t5-portable-ssd-mu-pa…

    And the 500GB @$139 https://www.binglee.com.au/samsung-500gb-t5-portable-ssdmu-p…

    Edit: bettered by RogueWolf.

      See my point above. Exclusive colours make comparisons not as valid. I would consider paying $10 more for Red, maybe even $20. I actually preferred the Blue over the Black, which meant I wasn’t as keen on the 1TB.

      • yep, used to be the same with some xiaomi deals, different colors different prices for phones.

  • If you have access to GoodGuys Commercial
    500gb $138
    1tb $277

    Dang those are pretty colours!

  • Honestly better off going for a normal SSD and get a external enclurse you could save like $100ish going down that route with the 1TB

    • Could you give an example of a good pairing at a similar speed?

    • Twice the physical size though - the Samsung is tiny and nice and pocketable.

    • ….but this is a normal SSD, it's basically mSATA SSD inside a USB3.1 Gen 2 enclosure……..it's basically what you just described but this one is predone for you….albeit with the extra price tag because of it….

      • Are you someone who buys branded desktops?

        • Is there an equivalent mSATA SSD with a compatible USB3.1 gen 2 enclosure? I know Samsung only sells mSATA SSDs up to a capacity of 1TB, but there exists 2TB ones that they do not…..soo…….. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

          • @Zachary: I'm not sure, but they do make enclosures for m.2 so you can use an nvme m.2 SSD. You'll still be bottlenecked by the 10Gbps USB port though.

            For me though, the speed is more essential in an internal boot drive than an external storage. I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of speed on a USB drive if I can get more capacity for the same price, because I won't be running games or apps directly off it, so the only thing affected is transfer speeds, which I can let run in the background while I do something else.

            • @lostn: …yeah and what about those people who dont have nvme m.2 slot and only have mSATA slot spare? And since 1TB is the biggest you can buy separately, you'll need to get the 2TB and dismantle it for the mSATA drive inside…..

              I guess if you want an external nvme m.2 drive, it'll have to be a thunderbolt 3 interface….or wait till USB 3.1 gen 3 comes out which will probably have double the throughput…..

                Not sure what you mean. You wouldn't be using any m.2 slots, you'd be using a USB port. That's what an enclosure does.

                I think you are talking about a different thing. You seem to be referring to buying this external drive in order to dismantle it and use it as an internal drive. Based on the context I don't get how you got to that as your draw card. mSATA is not a very common storage interface.

                We are comparing m.2 nvme enclosures for external use, in order to be an apples to apples comparison for this Samsung T5 drive (at least that's what I thought you were). It's cheaper to make your own external SSD, though these prices are reasonable for SATA based speeds.

                They make type-C enclosures already, but I don't know if they are TB3.

                  You're right, I kinda noticed that after I posted that and then re-reading it….heh….

                  ok what about this one, would you buy a car or build a car yourself because it's probably cheaper to build your own assuming you're a car mechanic and know everything about cars?

                  • @Zachary: No, because building your own car isn't legal. There are regulations and certifications for it to be on the road, and you won't have that. Also a car is a much more complex device with many many parts. You would not have the economy of scale to purchase the parts separately for cheaper than buying a prebuilt car outright.

                    Perhaps a more fitting analogy would be, would you rather buy a branded PC or a no-brand PC, or build your own no-brand PC?

                    Almost never would I buy a branded PC unless it's a laptop. Building it yourself, even if it didn't save you money, is an enthusiast thing that PC connoisseurs love to do, and it ensures you get full customization of every part which you won't otherwise get. I never find myself agreeing with every choice of part in a branded PC, and in the rare case when I do, I could have built it cheaper with better cooling and airflow myself.

                      No, because building your own car isn't legal.

                      Oh I thought it was….considering the cool rides I see that speed up and down my street…..with neon undercar lights, loud exhaust, coloured smoke that leaves your pipe, lowered (or highered if they got them monster truck-like wheels….) fat drag wheels at the rear or incredibly large rims for both front and rear wheels, that looks like it's only just rubber and the rim stuck together, and not having worry about puncturing the tyre since there's no air to keep it stable, huge massive authoritative subs that take rap and hip hop (maybe a bit of trap) music to the next suburb, dark tints to the point I can't see who's driving the car, and nice trim all over for the rest…….

                      …well there goes that goal in life about custom building my own car from ground up……hahahaha…..sad…

                      I wasn't aware you are able to build a custom laptop from ground up, that aren't already pre-designed for you and all you have to do is just pick the main parts from a limited selection…….

                      • @Zachary: Not sure why you necroed this, but you can't build your own laptop. They don't sell the parts to consumers aside from RAM, network/BT cards and SSDs. Authorized repairers can buy the rest of the parts.

                        Whatever ride you're seeing is either a heavily modified version of something else, or illegal. The ordinary person isn't going to have the wherewithal to assemble their own car. Maybe a hunk of junk very basic car, but one that resembles the complexities of a modern car? No. You can't just buy parts and slap them together. They need to be engineered to fit.

                          Not quite in the grave yet……but I wanted some clarification from you, that's why I responded….

                          Ok, fair enough.

  • Tempting as always but I'm waiting for my 2TB 970 Evo Plus to arrive… :(

    • I'm keen to get your feedback on it when it arrives, as I'm looking for a 2TB Samsung to use as an external drive.

      • What enclosure do/will you use? I bought one which doens't fit…

      • I think his is m.2 nvme. But you can buy enclosures for that. I'm just not sure if you'll get nvme speeds if you use it. If not, may as well go for SATA based SSD.

    • Did you get a bargain?
