$100 Electricity Credit - $25 for Four Months (Powershop)

85

Hi Guys,

Take advantage of this generous $100 statement credit from Powershop. I have been with them for a couple of years now and can say that they are the cheapest and most transparent electricity company I’ve dealt with. You can also purchase electricity in advance for bigger discounts. They are based in New Zealand and customer service is also great. Also they have no lock in contracts.

Note $100 bonus is only until end of April then reverts back to $75

Edit:
Sorry I didn’t really give any details of rates. I’m paying 84.80c daily supply charge and 24.46c per kw/h for the all day usage plan. I live in Victoria and my supplier is Powercor
For comparison Momentum energy has a higher supply charge of 104.9c but lower rate of 22.6c per kw/h. I guess if you’re using more than 10kw/h per day momentum might represent better value. My usage is between 3-6kw/h per day so for me powershop is the cheapest.
Thanks all for your feedback

Cheers

they are the cheapest and most transparent electricity company

I'd give that prize to Tango/Pacific Hydro down here in Jemima (Nth-side Melbourne).

Flat rate, no pretend discounts, no buying power in sale. And according to vicgov compare, these guys are more expensive

Yea tango are great no frills no bs provider. No fancy websites, no app or dashboards but i don't care. It just means I'm not paying for fluff i don't need

    • +2

Used to be with powershop but the way they calculate the power and buying for power packs just doesn't make it any cheaper. And yes Tango is the way to go for the moment.

    • +1

Thanks. I didn’t even know of Tango! I can’t see that they distribute to my area though. I live in south east Melbourne and my distributor is Powercor. I’ll have to give them a call on Monday

I moved to GloBird 6 months ago. Saving almost $20/month. I think GloBird is the cheapest in Melbourne market.

+1 for tango. Easy to connect. Good price. Bills are easy to read and arrive on time.

These guys are carbon neutral which is a huge added bonus. Plus cheap and great. Nothing to lose whatsoever.

Pains me to say as someone that was with PowerShop for years. They WERE the cheapest. They WERE the most transparent. They got so bad I had to leave. All started awhile ago when they started tinkling with the app, refusing to enable you to track certain views. Read the app reviews. That tells the story. Sad because I really liked them. I am Tango now, my bills have been insanely cheap compared to PowerShop over the last 6+ months.

    • +2

Yeah I'm the same, powershop was great at the start but moved onto pacific/tango, definitely cheaper

      • +1

Me three. Ex Powershop user, moved to Tango.

Tango were Pac Hydro. Despite the hydro connection, I'm not clear on any green/carbon neutral credentials they have company wide. Definitely cheaper tho.

  • Poor feed in tariff if you've got solar panels

  • +4

    Definitely not the cheapest.
They used to be great but they got greedy.
Go with Tango for the best rates.

  • +2

They would have to be one of the most confusing power providers out there, you need to prepay energy with power packs to maximize savings.

  • +5

Tango is the cheapest and not dealing with stupid discounts to confuse you.

    • They aren't in NSW from the look of the website.

  • +1

What makes them the cheapest you haven't posted their rates. Just a referral link

    • +2

This deal isn't about them being the cheapest. It's about a $100 credit.

      • But you probably get charged more then $100 over your current plans so that's not a deal

      • +2

It's also only $25 over 4 months so you are locked in to get it

      • -1

        that'd be refarral spam then.

PowerShop QLD 21.99c kwh, 97.83 Daily charge

Alinta QLD 20.185 kwh, 108.9 Daily Charge

Alinta work out cheaper based on 500 kWh a month usage.

And you get $70 cash back with Cash Rewards too. https://www.cashrewards.com.au/compare-energy-and-gas

Tango was cheapest and most transparent for me. I found power shop requirements quite confusing. Ended up going with Lumo as they have online signup and same price (Tango unfortunately doesn’t have an online form and I was in a hurry). Lumo have recently changed to a simpler (no discounts - just cheap price) structure.

Most companies have sign up bonuses, an extra $25 isn’t going to count for much if the rates are no good!

    • +1

Sorry, not related to PowerShop, but for any others considering Tango, I also found it slightly inconvenient not having online sign-up, but I called them and was straight through to local call centre and service was very fast and easy. No BS discounting schemes, etc, just cheapest rates I could find in my area.

  • If in NSW check out Qenergy was cheapest for me no discount just 1 rate.

    • They don't seem to advertise rates without requiring filling in all your details for a quote…maybe I'm missing something here?

      • +1

I pay 20.7c then 20.5c per kw then 77c day supply no bonus no discount.

        • Thanks for putting in those numbers. As a WA resident it seems a pain to have to think about / deal with power supplier selection and I wondered if it gives any real savings to consumers vs leaving it government owned. Looking at my most recent bill .. maybe
          Supply charge 92.31c /day, Residential Anytime consumption 25.752 /kWh

        • Can you link the fact sheet or plan name?

          https://www.qenergy.com.au/What-Are-Your-Options

        • According to https://www.qenergy.com.au/flux-content/qenergy/pdf/2017/Aus…, rate is 42.757c/Kwh GST Inc. How do you get that rate? unless they reduced their rate this year to 20.5c/Kwh, maybe you can point us? the direction?

          • +1

@chiesel21: Yeh not sure I didn't negotiate or anything it's just there base rate worked out cheaper then 20-30% off at other providers I signed up to direct debit and bill smoothing which brought the rate down slightly.

          • @chiesel21: Usage
            VARIABLE HOME OFFPEAK EA011 94.39 kWh 20.7900 c/kWh $19.62
            Retail 20.7900 c/kWh
            VARIABLE HOME PEAK EA011 51.41 kWh 20.5800 c/kWh $10.58
            Retail 20.5800 c/kWh
            VARIABLE HOME SHOULDER EA011 170.06 kWh 20.5800 c/kWh $35.00
            Retail 20.5800 c/kWh
Service To Property Charge 28 Days 0.7700 $/day

            This is from my bill

Does not provide sufficient details and with a weak sign up bonus. Not sure how this gets posted in the "Deals" page.

  • What’s cheapest in SA, still tango or agl?

  • +1

Northcote, 3070. PowerShop buying monthly 70$+ per month, Globird 50$ for month in same quarter with similar usage.

  • -2

They used to be the cheapest, not anymore. With their current expensive pricing and complicated powerpack purchase rule it is no longer worth to switch to them.
Credit is not lump sum but spread across many months. No Deal at all.

  • +1

Used to be with them but switched to Globird -much cheaper and simpler.

As other posts were talking about Tango I just had a look and still found Globird a better deal.
