Vertical Mice (e.g. Logitech MX Vertical)

Hi Ozb,

Does anyone have any experience with vertical mice? Some examples include Logitech MX Vertical, Anker Vertical Mouse, J.Burrows Vertical Mouse. Are they more ergonomic than gaming mice or something like a MX master?

Currently using a Logitech G500s, it does get a little uncomfortable for long periods of use but not really painful. Interested in vertical mice but the MX vertical is quite pricey, cheapest I can find is $130 on ebay after discounts ($148 at Harvey Norman).

  • A couple of years ago I started having issues with my wrist and tingling feeling in my thumb so I got a Evoluent VM4R. It has helped heaps, however I had to change my habit as well, including switching to the left hand when my right hand doesn't feel right.

If you consider Evoluent brand, make sure that you try all their sizes to see which one works best for you. Their small size works for most people.

  • I have an evoluent VM4R as well, which I use at work.
I was getting RSI in my mouse arm, so i tried the Evoluent. It works ok as a mouse, but takes getting used to. It defintely helps with the RSI.
At home I game with a normal mouse. Vertical mice are not as accurate as normal mice as they use different muscle groups deliberately.

I recently bought a MS ergo (trackball) and love it, but again you couldn't game with it. Probably prefer it over the evoluent.

My suggestion would be to retain your normal mouse for any gaming and use a vertical or trackball mouse at all other times.

  • Consider trackballs too.

  • Better usability is always great. But just looking at them they don't look great for gaming, definitely just ergonomics. And even then, you'd probably have to adapt to em.

  • I like the sound of an MX Vertical but I’m just a sucker for Apple Trackpads. Ergonomic or not I’m a speed queen on them.

  • Looks like an abalone looking for a rock to attach to after it has been removed.

  • I use an Anker Vertical Mouse, initially purchased as I was getting a sore hand using a mouse for long periods. I would not go back to a normal mouse now although it took some getting used to but it is so much better if you are experiencing discomfort
