Macbook Air 2015 Oct - Motherboard issue

Need some advice please. The Macbook Air I bought in October 2015 suddenly died / stop booting up last week. I took it to the Apple store yesterday and after checking they said there is an issue with the motherboard and it will cost $750 to fix it. They also mentioned that the ACCC has defined the reasonable life time of a Macbook is 3 years. Is this correct?

Is there any other place in Sydney that I can get it fixed for less than what Apple store charge?

Thanks

  • You could probably get the logic board repaired for around $500 elsewhere. The laptop is quite old and used logic board are selling for $300

  • I have a Macbook from 2014 and expect to get a few more years out of it - three years is not a long time for such an expense, in my opinion.

  • According to Choice, a budget laptop should last around 4 years. I consider Apple laptops, even their cheapest to be high-end personally. In that case, Choice reckon about 8 years. Even mid-range, 6 years. There is no way a Macbook Air should be considered a budget product with a limited lifetime of 4 years.
