Time to get rid of those controllers inundated with Cheddar

    • +1

How come ps3 and ps4 is more than xbox360 and xboxone? Should they be the same since games are the same?

      • +5

I'd assume because both playstation controllers have internal batteries, where as xbox controllers will need external batteries. Most logical reason anyway.

        • +2

This should actually drive the price down - a second hand DS3 or DS4 could have a battery that lasts only a few minutes - those controllers have terrible batteries to begin with, can't imagine a second hand one having much left at all.

      • +9

I imagine because there's a higher demand for them.

        • +4

This is the correct answer. EBs trade in prices are based entirely on demand

  • +2

30 for 1 joycon? 60 for the pair?

    • +3

      $30 for 1 apparently

      "For your Joy Con controller"

      • -2

        They're like $100/pair, new… Insane!

Who's got so many, they'd flog them for this price?

        • +5

$60/pair if they're getting a bit tired isn't bad if they're $90-100 for new ones

          • +3

@spackbace: Plus your EB World trade in bonus, so possibly up to $72 at 20% bonus for level 4.

            • +1

@Smigit: Did this last time, $17 cost to get a new pair from my old 2 years old ones. Was a good deal imo

  • -1

don't get what the deal is, nothing at the linked page…?

    • Have put the email image in. The website or facebook should reflect it tomorrow when it starts

    • +3

      Try reading the description 👌

  • +2

Wonder why they didn't include Wii remotes when they're selling them for more then 360 controllers. Controllers need to be genuine right, no third party ones?

    • +1

      From T&Cs:

Value shown is for official first party wireless controllers only.

      • +2

Thanks Richard. I can see the deal has since been updated since to confirm.

  • Do they test the controllers? Or just a just visual check?

  • Is this for store credit or cash? Do they still do the thing where you get 20% less if you want cash?

    • no cash

    • I got cash less 20% for the similar deal in Jan.

  • +1

    Thanks op.
Well be selling one or two.

Bought 4 Sony DS3 controllers a year ago for $15!
3 didn't work though, but after reflowing the solder they work!

    • +14

This is why you stay clear of second hand devices, someone has soldered them into working condition.

      • +3

        Lol 😂.
Though in my defence it was just the USB port that needed reflowing. It's usually always the USB port, that's where people tend to be rough and where cords are tripped on.

        • +3

:D Haha yeah I believe you are correct, still pretty funny how the world of second hand devices works. I sold a Nexus 4 which I repaired myself, worked fine but it's still a shady world we live in, with me included!

        • +1

360 controllers are much harder to do arent they? I looked up how to do one myself and it wasnt a great idea.

          • @MrSammyMcG: I'm not sure.
It's just a hobby of mine, been fixing stuff for a while.
If you've got a XB controller that isn't working and it's just sitting around I'd say just give it a shot, the worst that could happen is it'll remain broken, also you've looked up on how to do it!

    • +1

      Weird flex

  • +1

(profanity) yeah, glad I held on to a couple of those old dodgy PS3 remotes rather than dumping them a few months ago when I finally found them again. Thanks, OP.

    • -1

Awesome… let's profit, while ruining the next person's experience!

      • -1

Except EB test them and make sure they work and if they don't, they throw them. And if a dud one sneaks by, they have a really good returns policy anyways.

        • They don't test them. They will just turn it on. That is all.

    • The one in Jan, I sold 3 x X360 contys. Weirdly they wouldn't take them back when I traded my 360 in for my PS4, yet ended up getting $65 for them in that sale. Was glad I kept them for so long.

  • +1

Can you combine this with your EB World Birthday trade bonus?

    • Only games. Not hardware

    • What's the birthday bonus anyway? I got the email saying I have something but it didn't say what it was…

  • just in time for days of play sales

  • +7

Pro-tip: Go to your local Salvos, St Vincent de Paul (etc) charity stores. Controllers are generally VERY cheap (especially XBox360 and Dual Shock 3). Support the store by buying a few and then flipping them for better $ at EB.

    • +3

You will see heaps of Guitar Hero guitars and DJ Hero turntables, maybe the occasional controller, and mostly crappy Xbox, PS3 and Wii games. I dont think Ive ever made a single video game related purchase, and I op shop as much as probably anyone here. No one is going to give them to the Salvos if they can give them to EB for credit. The stuff that makes its way to the op shops is basically the scum of the earth that the other shops all refuse.

      • +1

Obviously, YMMV with regards to what's available in your local charity stores. Still good pickings around here. Best find in recent weeks was a boxed 60GB PS3 with two DS3 controllers for $50.

"No one is going to give them to the Salvos if they can give them to EB for credit."

Wrong. When I downsized my gaming collection last year, our local Vinnies store ended up with a pile of donated hardware instead of EB Games. Vinnies might have made $150+ for what items I left them. And that's a better outcome (in my mind) than me getting $80 or so from EB or $150 after dealing with Gumtree timewasters.

        • Alright then, but not many people are going to pass up the chance to get $80 credit at EB.

I just hope your stuff promptly made its way into deserving hands. The problem with donating quality games to the Salvos is that they get thrown on the pile with all the crap, where they either rot or some kid gets to it and trashes it. Or it gets stolen.

I saw a vintage Sierra PC game the other day at the Salvos. I had no interest in it but it was in nice condition, for about a week. Then the box got fairly banged up. It was just rummaging around with the old wooden squash rackets and the winter skis near the toy section. At least at EB your stuff will get treated with some basic respect.

      • I got Red Alert 3 limited pre-order edition that comes with RA2 discs and Quake4 special edition that comes with Quake2 for $2 each at my local op shop.

      • I got 2 Xbox360 controllers for $3 at my local savers.

        • I got Super Mario Bros 3 on NES (PAL) at my local meth converters for $15. But I wouldnt expect that every day.

    • +2

I agree with @cannedhams. I guess it depends on where you live but I have never seen a contrller there (other than a PS2 one, once) and they always have a millions copies or poopware and random accessories; PS Eye, Guitar Hero controllers, wii balance board etc.

      • Yes, absolutely depends on where you live and what items land with the stores in your area. That's the charity store lucky-dip.

If you want a more consistent supply of higher quality items, there's always Big-W, EB Games, Target etc etc.

        • For sure, but they are priced at or generally close to RRP

  • official first party wireless controllers only

Damn. Was looking to get rid of some wired controllers.

    • +11

      Cut the wires off?

      • Like actually? I guess if they only do a visual check…

I can't tell when to take Ozbargain seriously sometimes :P

        • If you can’t then you shouldn’t.

  • I this only valid for EB World Gold members or some such? (I remember a similar deal some time ago that I couldn't cash in on because of that…)

  • +1

Any idea if the instore credit can be used to purchase PSN top up $ cards?

    • +2

Instore credit can be used to buy anything in store. This includes PSN top up cards.

      • +1

Can't be used for gift cards I was told when I traded in my controller back in January

        • +1

I bought PSN cards with gift cards back in about January. Typical EB, rules vary depending upon store and staff member.

  • Bought Xbox One controller. Then bought an Oculus, then bought Xbox One S. Still only use 1 controller.

    Great deal for me.

  • Any idea if you get your EB world level bonus on top of this?

    • I was about to ask that. can anyone answer plz?

      • +2

"Not to be combined with any other offer except EB World"

    • +2

My email says +level 4 bonus

      • Good to know :) I'm only a noob

        • +2

Lol you are a person who provides much to our community. Always appreciate the hard work.

    • January offer allowed it so would assume so

  • -2

These prices would be good if you could buy them for this much

    • +2

Then that would be a completely different deal.

    • +1

That deal would be called "swap your shit controller for a brand new one"

      • -1

Is your controller automatically shit if its second hand? Do they actually take broken controllers?

  • +1

I assume it doesn’t matter what model Xbox One controller as long as it’s first party? Might be a good way to swap out some day one controllers without the Bluetooth or headphone jack.

  • +1

Ive got a broken PS4 Controller, the tongle gets stuck, is it worth repairing?

    • +9

what the hell is a tongle?

      • +3

Tongles live in London, England. They spook very easily.

      • +6

        According to urban dictionary:

washing your nether regions with minty showergel might cause a tongle

  • Also, that deal seems good, trade 2 games and get that new game Days gone for $35.

    • +3

Well it's $66 at jbhifi not sure if worth trading 2 games for essentially $31

      • It would be worth checking the trade in value at JB. Depending on the games it might end up cheaper, but for some people that don't want to fork out the whole $66, trading 2 for $31 is still a good deal to buy from EB.

      • Thanks for this. I completely forgot JB has better prices near launch. I was going to buy this for $100 tomorrow.

    • Having a controller that is slightly defective, and price matching with JB, you'd get it for $26. Think I might do this today.

  • Is anyone's store even open tomorrow?

    • -1

Depends, why not look on their page instead of asking here?

      https://ebgames.com.au/Stores

      • -1

…because none of my 4 stores are… and I was wondering if anyone else's local store was… since it's ANZAC Day… and I'm pointing out a massive flaw with this deal…

        • +4

It’s not that massive a flaw. It runs through the weekend

  • +2

would i be reaching if i could trade in my ps4 controllers with a partially torn thumbstick

    • Wondering the same thing. Anyone do this previous?

      • Yep they certainly do, I have one and confirmed its accepted. The only thing I forgot to ask, do you need to bring in the charging cable for PS4 controller?

        • +1

Yeah mate can confirm they took mine with the rubber ripped and no cable. No issues :)

  • -1

    Would this work?

EB Games Buy 2 get 1 Free preowned DS4 controller at $74. Trade all 3 in at $40 each at $120. Profit = $46.

Edit: nvm. It's $74 each making it a loss of $28.

  • I've got a DS4 controller but one of the originals where they had the issue of thumbstick rubber peeling off. Would they still take this?

    • They took mine no problems!
