Nielson Consumer Panel - Rewards Are They Worth It?

I have been accepted into the Nielson Panel which is a program where you can scan everything you buy and enter the price as part of market research, in exchange you earn points which can be used to purchase rewards.

My wife is really into doing surveys while she has been on Maternity leave (earning miniumum wage), I tend to think doing surveys is hardly worth the effort for the what little she gets, (her response is that it is better than shitposting on reddit etc).

I signed up for it because I thought it would be a way for her to make better rewards than just doing surveys, has anyone done it and are the rewards worth it?

      Don't forget Whirlpool!

I think you misunderstand the quote. If you read it in its full context,

My wife is really into doing surveys while she has been on Maternity leave (earning miniumum wage), I tend to scoff at her saying she really is not making any worthwhile money, (her response is that it is better than shitposting on reddit etc).

I think what OP means is that doing surveys for money is not "really making any worthwhile money", not the fact that she is on maternity leave.

Your explanation still does not convince me. She's making use of her free time and making some money. She gets my blessing.

My wife usually makes a 6 figure salary, her hourly rate is over $50/hour, I doubt she makes $5/hour (in gift cards etc) doing surveys.

We are not poor, she doesn't need to be wasting her time doing surveys.

          • @[Deactivated]: @seano2101: Maybe it helps her to get things off her mind. Post birth, hormones go crazy and it is best if you keep occupied. Im not even married or in a relationship, why do I even know this?

      • Yeah as above, she's doing something to contribute while on maternity leave and would be difficult to leave the house a lot with a newborn. "Scoffing" at the small amount the surveys make is a bit ridiculous.

I think what OP means is that doing surveys for money is not "really making any worthwhile money"

So what? A small amount of money while keeping herself busy is better than watching YouTube all day (hello to my ex!)

not the fact that she is on maternity leave.

I never mentioned that. Where the hell did that line come from?

        • Note that I'm not defending what OP is saying - I actually agree with you that it's great she does what she can whilst on maternity leave and that it's better than doing nothing. Perhaps it's better than watching YouTube all day, but I'm guilty of that, so I won't comment!

I was just merely pointing out that there was the potential to misunderstand what OP was saying, that's all.

I tend to scoff at her saying she really is not making any worthwhile money,

I scoff at you for being a d!ck husband

  • I tried it for a while. It's not worth it.

    • I scoff at you for not trying harder and then giving up.

      • I scoff at you for scoffing at others.

  • After getting phoned yesterday from some random company about free property seminar with free android tablet (probably pendopad), I'm less inclined to do any further surveys.
They said my details came to them from doing some survey in last 12 months.

  • I was with their scanning program for a while a few years ago but found it wasn't worth the hassles for the few points I received.

I ended up telling them to stick their scanner where the sun doesn't shine when Nielson started sending me nasty emails telling me that I wasn't spending enough money on my shopping every week and because I bulk buy they weren't happy that some weeks my grocery shopping spend was almost zero.

OP, you're a brave but foolish man. When my wife was on maternity leave, we were receiving 2-3 parcels every week. Big ones too! I was concerned that she might have caught the ozbargain affliction again (she had it from 2011-2015) and I didn't know how to broach the subject. Thankfully, it was something else.Phew!

You should be happy that your missus is keeping busy and not online shopping.
