Looking to Learn DJ Course (Free Maybe)

Hi everyone,

Recently I find myself inspired by DJ and music. Would love to follow DJ lesson for beginner. Wondering if you guys know any course or tip about DJ beginner for free. Please do let me know.

I don't have any Controller/equipment(only laptop) and I've been looking around on Udemy course but found nothing

Hopefully anyone knows about DJ could help me gain knowledge.

Thanks

You can learn to mix from youtube clips. VirtualDJ is free for home use. On a budget just get a small second-hand controller with an inbuilt soundcard and USB connect to your laptop so you can mix properly. There's usually so many of them at Cash Converters you can talk the price down quite a bit.

      Lol.. Jesus pose

You forgot that you need to pretend you're pressing buttons or scratching vinyl

What do you want the end result to be?

    Fun or career driven?

For fun: Just buy a cheap second hand all in one unit or decks off ebay.

DJ'ing isn't that easy to teach, you do need an 'ear' for music and hearing beats…

TAFE had a free Ableton Live course in the last few years. It was great fun, and I think I got some kind of cert out of it (or I was never correctly enrolled in the first place, not too sure). Very good intro to beatmaking.

It doesn't look like they are doing it at the moment, but you could contact them and see if any other sessions are planned. All software so it can be "free", plus whatever midi you find for cheap later on.

    This was in Ultimo, Sydney

  • Thanks guys for all tips, I just wanna learn DJ to mix my own music for now.

I do some research about DJing, in fact, it's hard to learn also. But I love music. Hopefully, it turns out something one day

    Cheers

  • Hi there. In a past life I was a name DJ with residences and support gigs with numerous international acts. Here is the free course you seek.
    1. Get an amp and speakers. Cheap on Gumtree.
    2. Get a mixer. eBay fine. Two channels at least. Cheap.
    3. Get two sources. Turntables, CDJs, laptop, your choice.
    4. Get copies of the music you like.
    5. Mix them together over and over and over and over and over again. By 'mix', I mean figure out a way of merging, combining the tracks so that you think it sounds good.
    6. Once you've done 5 for a while, record what you've done and listen to it.
    7. Do (5) and (6) a lot.
That's it. You don't need to beatmix, you don't need to cut, you don't need to scratch. You need to discover your own style - otherwise you will sound like millions of other DJs out there. You don't need the best equipment - that will just make you lazy, and you need to work to perfect your own style.

It's great that you love the music. The best DJs love the music.

    • Hi blitz,

      • When you've done 6, upload it and PM me a link. I'd love to hear it.

        • Hello

I just wanna thank you for very good Dj tips that you bring to my topic earlier. But I have a few questions hope you don't mind.

Is it mandatory to have DJ gear when it comes to learning about DJ? TBH I'm just making enough for living and have to spend on other stuff also so I couldn't afford DJ gears

I wanna learn about basic theory first, try to get used to DJ software on the laptop and possibly do beatmatching by software. I really wanna go to DJ course or study with a DJ to get experience but gosh, wish I had money and time for that

Hopefully, you can show me some basic.

          Cheer mate
