How to Buy a Cheaper Miele Washing Machine?

Hi,

I need to buy a new WM and keen on getting the Miele.

I am looking at the WDD030 that goes for $1600, and wanted to ask if anyone worked out a way to buy them cheaper? Gift cards etc or any other way?

Also, are they really that much better than Bosch (the WAW28460)? $600 is not much if you are taking a 10 - 13 year view on life of the machine, but wondering if its worth investing more now

Cheers

It is pretty difficult as Miele don't allow discounting by the retailer so you have to wait for Miele to have a sale. Gift cards or discounted Visa/mc cards is handy.

Our Miele stuff has lasted longer than our Bosch.

Find discounted David Jones/Hardly Normal gift cards - worked out OK with various Amex deals in the past stacked on top with Miele's own promo.

Find out if your state has an Miele outlet sort of thing, the one in Sydney was in Rosehill and now in Eastern Creek/Huntingwood. They used to have F&F clearance sort of thing round about in September. Lovely people to deal with if the staff I've dealt with in the past haven't moved on.

    This

You need to ring them and ask what models are available as the models/stock level change all the time.

    • Yeah I've been to their outlets in Melbourne, bought a vacuum cleaner at about 30% off RRP. When I went,?There was a lot of their higher end stuff though

  • I myself was in the same dilemma(Bosh or Miele) couple of months ago but could not justify the price premium you have to pay for Miele. After a lot of research got the top of the range German-made Bosch 9Kg (WAY32891AU - End up being a lot cheaper with 20% or 15% Appliances online ebay sale + Bosch Cashback + Cashrewards). You would naturally expect a Miele (or even a Bosch) to last 15 or so years but I don't think no matter how much you pay for washing machines these days they aren't made the same way that they used to back in the day. Just read about sealed drums and how they make washhing machines impossible/uneconomical to repair and replace the bearings but it seems pretty much all manufacturers have gone that way. Even if the washing machine lasted 15 years it would be technologically so much outdated and end up being a lot cheaper to replace with a more energy saving and feature-rich model in 8-10 years time.

How to Buy a Cheaper Miele Washing Machine?

Prices are fixed my Miele. So no discounting allowed on the sticker price.

Your 'only' cheaper option is as you said, via discounted gift cards, so find the cheapest giftcard for a retailer that sells the model you want and go from there.

if you are taking a 10 - 13 year view on life of the machine,

Note Miele makes all these 'claims' about 10 year life and blah blah, but when push comes to shove, the warranty on the units isn't any better than any other maker.

WOW only a 2 year warranty, for a machine with such great claims, its a pretty poor offering.

  • Why not BOSCH

  • They offer 5 or 10 year warranty for the same models in the UK aswsell as being about 40% cheaper

    • When I bought our Miele dishwasher it was described as designed for a 20y life. Put that with Aussie consumer laws and I’d reckon that is as good as a 10y warranty.

  • I have a Bosch now and it lasted 13 years, so very happy with it. No reason for wanting a Miele, just want to buy one

Please hand in your OzBargain license. Replacing a working item with a more expensive version doesn’t sound like it makes economic sense.

      • Let me clarify, it worked for 13 years, and only recently went to washing machine heaven

    • A $600 Bosch unit today is unlikely to last 13 years

      • Probably not, which is why I ended up buying a more expensive German made Bosch

  • Update - ended up going with the Bosch WAW28620.

Appliance Online price matched Retravision (although they didnt have one in stock) to $1,355 and with the $100 cash back from Bosch it came to $1,255 delivered with removal of old machine. Pretty happy about that.
