Work (Office) Boots - A Happy Medium between RM Williams and Cheapo Brands?

Hey Guys,

I'm on the hunt work boots and it seems that the consensus is RM williams which are ~$500 or cheapo quality $150-$200 (Julius Marlow, aquila, florsheim, windsor smith etc).

I've gotten away with cheap nasties for a couple years now but am looking to step it up in the quality department, but it seems there is nothing in between?!

What are you wearing?

I may eventually end up with RM Williams but something in the ~$250 that actually warrants the price tag would be nice.

  • I'd look for some high quality second hand ones.

Make sure they have never been horse ridden.

    Blundstone Chelsea Boots :]

  • Allen Edmonds? But they're probably closer to the RM's in price

get a pair of rossi dress boots, bit cheaper than RMW and made in australia (just check - think there were some designs made in brazil). If in adelaide can go to the factory and get a pair of seconds very cheap. Seconds I hae bought had a slight scuff on the heal, very hard to notice.

  • rivers sell chelsea boots. ~$55

    they look fairly decent. leather

  • You can get loakes for that price. Good medium.

  • RMs all the way… I was in the same dilemma.
I held out for a while with a pair of cheapo boots but then I bought a pair of RMs and wish I did it earlier!

  • Bite the bullet and get the RM's

  • I'd recommend the RM's

  • If it's for work, claim it during tax time, or get workplace to pay, they can claim it as expenses too.
So take money out of the equation and find the best one.

Can't claim office shoes on tax :(

      • Oh man, you're right!

      • I don't know what the ATO refers to specifically when it talks about 'non-slip nurses shoes', but I have always used this to justify claiming my 'non-slip rubber sole RMs'. I work in the same environment. I also don't want to slip…
My backup is that I am required to wear full leather, closed heel, closed toe shoes. Again RMs fit the bill. As do lots of other shoes.

Might be worth checking if your OH&S require you to wear closed shoes. $400 from Nungar plus 30% back and claim the repairs later. Makes the price worth the comfort and style.
Plus when you wear RMs to work everyday it gives you the confidences to kick some teeth in if you need to. Although the need for me had never arisen, I'm always ready

  • I like Mongrel boots. Look ok. Hard wearing.

A few styles to choose from - so probably ok for office.

  • Try Rockport. Been wearing them for few years, really comfortable for walking..

  • Older thread but I'm here to recommend Baxter boots. Also Aus made and one step below RMs in price. Plus you don't have to be the dude in RMs then.
