Alkaline water is pseudoscience and I wouldn't advocate buying it for any price.

I wouldn't even buy this for the bottle, it looks like crinkled plastic garbage.

    • +5

It's perfect for refilling your Voss bottles.

    • While I agree, it’s preferable for those that suffer from gastric reflux. Can lower the acidity of stomach acid so doesn’t do so much damage to the oesophagas.

  • Looks like hype.

Real Icelandic water tastes nice though

    • Bottled at the source Olfus Spring in Iceland

Given the word count in the Woolies info (below) it Looks like hype!

      • It is hype just like any country's water. But yes the real thing is nice. Wouldn't go back to Iceland though

        • Iceland is a small but popular tourist destination. Wondering why wouldn't you go back?

          • +1

@INFIDEL: Cos I liked Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan more haha. I did love snowmobiling in iceland though, I'll give it that

            • +1

@adrianhughes1998: Thought you might be tempted more by other locations👍

              • +1

@INFIDEL: Haha you'd think so but I tend to go for more obscure places cos I like the outdoors and scenery etc. Got plenty of time to do all the touristy destinations when I'm old and arthritic so save those for then 🤣. Not sure where to next

                • +1

@adrianhughes1998: I understand. My outdoor gear is in boxes - sad😢 Used to travel overseas for fun 9 months a year for years.

I'm now more likely to base myself in a comfy place & explore unusual neighbourhoods in safer Foreign countries, than off the beaten path places of a few years ago.

I've had my thrills, been through a border crossing where I was detained for days & interrogated at gun point by military… Seen corpses & been asked by locals to stop military killings … And met many amazing people like Aung San Suu Kyi, Douglas Adams etc through their involvement in writing…

Still not a tourist, always a traveller.
Somehow a quieter life now isn't so bad, but I do miss the excitement😉

                  Enjoy👍

Then a few tonnes of CO2 to get the stuff here.

      • Yes, noticed that seems to be left out of theit thinking. It's a long way to bring bottled water😱

Opens whiskey bottled in glass just a bit further away (17,200km) than Iceland (16,600km)…

      • +4

        It's far worse than I expected…
Using the carbon emissions calculator for ship freight

        Each 1000 bottles
plus a conservative 20% extra weight for packaging, palettes etc = 1.2tonne

shipped 22,000 - 25,000km (11,876 - 13,489 nautical miles) (distances in above comment were by air)
        on a container vessel…

        Emits 847-963kg CO2 per 1000 bottles
Then there's local distribution to add to that…
        Up to nearly 1kg CO2 per 1L bottle of 1kg water shipped😱

        I need a drink🍷
But my 700ml bottle of Irish Whiskey weighs 1.2kg (estimated 1.4kg min with packing), travels 21,100-22,200km producing 948-998g CO2 per 700ml bottle😢

It's enough to drive a person to the tap💧

  • +1

For those who need water shipped from the other side of the world… it's probably the reason why the "glacier" is in liquid form and no longer ice.

    • +1

Apart from the fact - it's not from a glacier! That's just the brand name the marketers knew would get your attention😉

It is from an Icelandic underground spring (hence the mineral composition), from water derived originally from snow & rain!
Besides, Iceland is renown for it's geothermal activity & hot springs… It's not all ice in Iceland!

the water comes from the Ölfus Spring in southern Iceland that is made up of snow and rainwater that, according to Ólafsson, “goes through lava and takes between 400 and 600 years to reach the river.” In other words, not from a glacier at all,

  • I would upvote but i cant cause im associated

Really want to give this a try and see what all the fuss is about

    • +5

It has a real water-like taste and texture to it.

      • A nice refined texture?

Haha im not fancy at all just purely wanna see if it tastes amazing, i do like cold water and definately notice bottled water tastes better than tap

        • +1

If you ever wanted to know what the water is like to swim in… (amazing)

A 13/3 (repeat) doco on ABC1, (Pale Blue Dot, in "Forces of Nature with Brian Cox", Episode 4 of 4), Brian Cox explains the science behind the blue colour of the planet - by swimming in alkaline Icelandic water. Stunningly beautiful! So clear.

But too late to catch up on iView. There are diving videos on YouTube.

That's when I got interested in Icelandic water.

    • It's water. It has no taste, same as water. It doesn't smell, same as water. They market it to gullible people, same as bottled water.

      • In theory yes but not all tap water is created equal that's for sure.

  • Icelandic Richard Branson touts pure water, but at a cost
Took his Icelandic music industry & telecom money, bottled this water, & added spin. As seen on TV shows like “Dexter” and the “Big Bang Theory“, & Christian Dior products.

  • +7

It's water. Just open the f***ing tap.

    • -1

Of course. But, I don't live in Iceland😉
Some Icelandic bottled water is reportedly from Iceland taps!

Seeking out mineralised water sources is an ancient human tradition… Now available on supermarket shelves for our convenience😀

Water from remote & 'pristine sources' is attractive to some…
Australian businesses cash in with water farms in areas like NW Tas. Some of that ends up on European tables at a high price.

I don't buy bottled water. Tap is fine. Just curious about the properties of Icelandic alkaline water.

Don't forget to add that comment to the large number of bottled water Deals on OzBargain😉

      • Well, there is a case for not drinking tap water, thanks to gullible governments believing nonsense claims and doctored studies about a fictional link to teeth, and adding industrial fluoride waste to our water.

Even if the fluoride/teeth myth were true (it isn't), it's not calcium-fluoride naturally found in water sources, but the hazardous waste by product that is added with artificial fluoridation - the wrong type of fluoride anyway!

So they're using our kidneys to filter and profit from anotherwise worthless and toxic waste product they would have to pay to get rid of. And of course, our government is stupid enough to not only pay for it, but add it to our water and bodies. Meanwhile, the first country to promote fluoridated water, has since revoked it's addition to its water supply - and that with no discernible difference in its citizens' rate of tooth decay. (Thus proving the claims of other nations in amazing reductions of the incidence of tooth decay was not due to the addition of fluoride in the first place, but other factors.)

  • How can you add a thousand Plus votes to that post?

    • I think this product's marketers would like to know that.

  • -1

If you want the hyped benefits without the high cost - you can change (preferably filteted / distilled) water into wine alkaline water.
Plenty of info out there - eg using Baking Soda, Sea Salt, Calcium Powder, Lemon, & pH test strips

  • ….turns out glaciers smell just like bullshit!

  • Landfill + carbon footprint. Brilliant 😕

  • -1

    Great , I'll upvote it :)

No Greens around my electricity bill would be 50% cheaper and even if we used an acceptable method on emissions nuclear my bill would be 25 % . Greens are too worried about wastage removal and accidents .

    • Your logic makes no sense!
Certainly not based on the observable facts.

You realise you've upvoted & are supporting a water business that claims green credentials for it's sustainable & carbon neutral processes… while stating you are against "greens" (although it's hard to understand what you wrote)😱

      Sounds very "green".

Criticism here was about their hype & "green" claims (when the water is unnecessarily shipped up to 25,000km), let alone any need to import expensive water to Australia at all. Better to save money & drink local (tap) water💧

Good to see you go it almost alone by endorsing a foreign "green" business selling expensive water to Hollywood & others gullible enough to believe their hype!

Is that how you make decisions - ignore facts, go against trends (hence your upvote), just jump to conclusions that you somehow think fit your beliefs (supporting a "green" business!)?? Guess you won't want to understand this comment!

Must be nice to have money to waste.
Enjoy the taste of this "green" water, you trendsetter😉

      I won't know what I'm missing.

      • "The first water to blah, blah…." So, much like McDonalds food has the heart foundation tick. (A nonsense claim and 'qualification' in other words.) ;-p

  • Cheaper than flying to Iceland to try their water. Thanks OP !
