Clear Book Covering/Contact $0.25 for 2m, $1 for 10m

280

Just came back from my local Office Works and noticed that they were selling 2m rolls of clear book covering/contact for 20 cents each.

Looked online and the link says 25 cents each, so I'll list it here as 25 cents each.
Also 10m rolls can be had for $1 each (didn't see any at my local store though)

  • woah nice!

  • I'm gonna Broden. JK

  • this is handy to apply to CDs and other discs to prevent the top suface from fatal scratches.

    • Dont mind me asking, why would the top of the CD matter?

      • Aesthetics. A scratched label can be extremely distressing to an obsessive/compulsive music lover :-D

I think that CDs store the data on the underside of the label. DVDs sandwich the data layer giving more protection, but if the top of a CD flakes off it's unusable.

The "top" of a CD is far more susceptible to damage than the "bottom" so isn't a case of chyawala being obsessive/compulsive !

The "top" has a super thin layer of acrylic lacquer and possibly some screen printing or label.
The "bottom" or read/write side is a relatively thick polycarbonate disc which forms the bulk of the thickness of the CD…

You can confirn this by peeling away the thin top layers and separating them from the relatively thick polycarbonate layer :)

        • Errr… my comment was a joke. You know… sarcasm, funny, ha ha, etc?

Yeah sorry I sorta suggested you were calling someone OCD :p
It's just that I have been called OCD many times or told it didn't matter how "pretty" the CD looks when I try to stop people writing on a CD-R label side with a pencil - which can scratch away the lacquer and damage the data…
I was more trying to answer grizz_li's question because in my experience the majority of people I deal with have the misconception that the read/write side is more easily damaged !

I bought a roll of the "My name is ED" (or whatever it is) brand contact for 25c or so. It was blue with robots that look like space invaders (if you squint and are drunk)

OW are still clearing that stuff, and there are good bargains in that range if you rummage.

I think you meant "A Brand Called ED"
