Say the work use item is selling on ebay, but the seller is not a company registered in Australia, hence does not have ABN. Buying through ebay, ebay will still charge GST because the item is sent from overseas. So most likely, you ended up with a tax invoice issued by that overseas company, with the item price in AU$ without GST nor ABN, and then the GST portion is charged by ebay (god knows how to get an invoice from ebay). Has anyone able to claim back the GST portion and reimbursed the item price with the pre-tax salary via Salary Package?
I think there may be multiple parts to this. I can't help at all on the GST part.
For the other, it needs to show as AUD, not (assuming US seller) USD converted to AUD (if that makes sense). So if the seller lists in USD, you pay in USD (using your card's currency conversion), you're out of luck. If the seller lists in USD, but you use eBay/PayPal's atrocious currency conversion and ACTUALLY PAY IN AUD, then…no idea, but let us know? If the seller lists it in AUD and you pay in AUD and the entire purchase was AUD start to finish…I think you have a shot here. Let us know how it goes.
Sorry couldn't be more help.
