  • Are we going to get paid in USD?

    • Yes it will be USD then converted into AUD. So the actual value is greater than $5 AUD.

What's the "up to x%" mean.

e.g. Groupon up to 6%. Does that mean that the cashback could be some lower % than 6?

Both Cashrewards and Shopback offer 10% for Groupon. Doesn't seem most of these GoCashBack offers are very competitive.

    • Thanks for the feedback.
Yes, it means some items could be lower than X%, depending on what the store offers.
You do raise a valid point.
Sometimes not all our offers would match Cashrewards and Shopback, they might have a different deal with the merchant.
We do, however, try our best to give the best rates possible and will continue to do so.
We are also constantly adding new stores so definitely working on getting the best deals.
Let us look into it and try to get better rates.

Yes, it means some items could be lower than X%, depending on what the store offers.

So how will a customer know if they are getting the 6% or not?

        • +1

So how will a customer know if they are getting the 6% or not?

This is why you're an officer neil!

        • That's just how normal affiliate programs work. I guess this mob are more transparent than others and allow variable commission.

Every time someone buys from your aliexpress affiliate link, it doesn't mean you'll get a fixed 3% back or whatever the current cashback programs are offering.

I've got a side project going on but it doesn't earn much, but for doing nothing except renewing the domain, it's good.

          • @[Deactivated]: neil would know how it all works considering OzBargain serve affiliate links to guests ;) The issue is that GoCashBack are simply stating "up to x%" without actually disclosing what categories earn what.

    • +1

To be fair Neil. I found ShopBack also states the words up to x% often. Cash rewards is usually more transparent.

      • Aren't they usually itemized on their websites though (like, 2% gaming, 5% clothing etc), not just flat out 'up to'?

      • +6

As rompa said, they say that too but actually tell you what the % breakdowns are.

        e.g. Shopback: Catch:

        Up to 7% Cashback

        and then

Computers, Gaming, Phones, Audio, Camera, Home Entertainment and all Electronics 1.00%
        Standard Cashback 7.00%

        However GoCashback: Catch has

        Up to 3%

And nothing listed to tell you the details.

But even Shopback: Chemist Warehouse is a flat 1% storewide where GoCashback is up to 1%.

        EDIT:

And even more inconsistent is The Iconic which is up to 6% and breaks it down:

        With listed coupon code 5.0%
Non-listed coupon code No Cash Back
        Without coupon code 6.0%

That one makes sense and is how it should be but the others are not.

Do you have a web extension like cashrewards and shopback that lets you know when there is a cash back offer through gocashback? I rely heavily on those web extension notifiers.

    • Thanks for the feedback.
We don't have a web extension at the moment, only our US site has it.
We're definitely looking to develop one though.

    Welcome to Ozbargain rep,
As a rep the first few months week be the toughest at Ozbargain, we'll be closely following GoCashBack's rates and comparing them to Cashrewards and Shopback.

    Cheers.

    $5 USD bonus

New kid on the block SB offered $10 bonus when they launched just over a year ago.

Do you want to grow and prosper like them? … You've got to spend money to make money.

  • It's getting to be quite a crowded market, Cash Rewards, Shop back, Price Pal and Shop and Mint (don't know if it's still going) and now Go Cash Back.

    • Pricepal and Shop and Mint are gone.

A decade ago it was Moneybackco (which turned into Starthere, then turned into Pricepal) & Qwibble (formerly integrated with Buckscoop).

      • RewardBucks (the company that spammed a few of us to rep them) became ShopCred

    • I’m holding out for Dogeback

  • I might try this as shopback doesn't work for taobao.

Now if only cashrewards would jump on that bandwagon…

EDIT: Bleh, only for the US site.. ;-(

Ugh wait, weird, if I go to https://au.gocashback.com/taobao; it appears but I don't think it will work.

    Oh well.

    • Only our US site has Taobao at the moment but we're looking to roll it out in the near future for the Australian site too.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone!
Can't really respond to every all the comments one by one but definitely will take them onboard and improve. There's a few things that need tidying up too.
    More updates to come.

    • +4

Can't really respond to every all the comments one by one but definitely will take them onboard and improve.

TA always puts the effort in… Do you not love us GCBau?

    • +2

Umm, yes you can respond, it doesn't take that long and you're trying to earn business from an already well established space.

CR & SB have apps, browser extensions etc. Hell they're even incorporated into this site. If you want business from anyone here, you need something to beat them.

Otherwise why even bother trying to compete?

      • Fair point. Will try my best :)

    • +1

      Browser extension or GTFO
      /thread.

      Also, welcome!

  • In one week it's the expiry date for Cash Rewards to pay out the $35 Amaysim deal. We'll see how that goes.

    • +1

And if there are issues make sure you contact TA ;) Nothing else will resolve it quicker.

    • I just got mine today, requested payout with no issues (and so were all the previous ones).

      Hope you'll get yours soon.

      Cheers.

  • +1

So who's this rep then? Lol

    • Nice find, curiously is there a one rep rule around here? I genuinely cant remember.

      • No.

1 account per person is the rule. There can be numerous reps however irregardless of the amount of reps, store rep posting limits apply to the store.

  • -2

If you can't, as a business trading in Australia, deal in AUD, why would I put my trust in your financial system?

    • Fair point. We can definitely work on that.
The reason for this is that we simply carried over the system we have in place in the US to the Australian site.
Right now the currency is being converted into AUD from USD so it shouldn't affect you getting paid in AUD though.

      • couple of questions:
        1. How is the USD/AUD conversion rate determined?
        2. If my purchase was A$10 (ignoring tax and shipping) with a 10% cashback, can I expect to receive A$1 OR would it be converted to USD first, and back again to AUD? Because it sounds like the latter from your post.

        • Thanks for the questions.

          1. We use the rate at the time of conversion.

          2. The order would be converted to USD first then back to AUD. The purchase value and cashback will be shown as USD in your account.

          • @GoCashBack AU:

We use the rate at the time of conversion

what i meant was where do you get the fx rate from? How does it compare to the Visa/MasterCard exchange rate (which appears to be the gold standard here)?

The order would be converted to USD first then back to AUD. The purchase value and cashback will be shown as USD in your account.

so we'll be losing out of fx twice? This doesn't bode well.

            • @blablabla23: We use our internal rate which is a combination of the Visa/Master Card exchange rate and other rates.

I understand it may be a little inconvenient for now but we will do our best to avoid any fx losses.
We will definitely look into showing everything in AUD as well.

    • -2

Why wouldn't you? USD is a fairly reputable currency to deal with. Happy to take it. Give them a break, a new business starting out wont have everything ironed out. As long as they bring in fair competition im all for it. Not the usual type you see from overseas, who just aims on crushing opposition in hope for future dominance.

      • -3

Simple, because a business trading in Australia should trade in AUD.

If you were paid your wage in USD whilst working in Australia, would you be happy getting $1000 one week and $950 the next due to currency fluctuations?

        • -1

we're not working for them, if you're buying something and you can get some cream on top from cashback, isn't it better to get something like USD than nothing?

          • -3

@cloudy: But you are "working" for them essentially; they are getting money from your referral. Or where do you think this money comes from?

  • +1

A way to guarantee business from the ozbargain community is to sell coles or woolworths gift vouchers at a bigger discount than competitors. The standard discount is 5%, and even a 6% discount would make you the preferred vendor.

    • Thanks for the advice, we are working on getting the best deals for the community!

  • -1

Nothing like an active rep to really drum up business…

    /s

  • This thread is probably a bit outdated now, but I've just attempted to sign up with a referral today, and all the referral codes are coming back as invalid recommendation. I was able to sign up without it… but I'm assuming a lot of ozbargainers are going to miss referrals because people are just going to give up

    • I've reduced the referral time to 180 days. Hopefully that will make the codes fresher.
