MyNetfone, OPTUS Related, Reservoir Victoria, DSLAM Prematurely Decomissioned

Reservoir Victoria, my sister woke up to no internet, after several hours contacted MyNetfone (who are soon getting out of the ISP game) to find out that Optus has prematurely decommissioned their local DSLAM (Reservoir/Thomastown) due to the NBN rollout (which unfortunately is still 2 months away from activation)

Is it just me or is this going to a long and drawn out process that can't be fixed by the flick of a switch

There will probably be compensation claims a plenty in the wake of this

Has anyone else experienced a similar situation elsewhere

Does anyone know anyone affected in this area

Also does anyone know who spintel use as an adsl backbone as she was considering transferring her service to them

Many thanks

  • Read your contract

Ring TIO (free call & service)

    The quicker the better,
    so you know ur options.

    A TIO complaint gives
    MyNetFone some incentive
    to fix + compensate it
    for you; last time I
    checked, the ISP pays
    TIO each time TIO agree
    that the Complaint is
    valid.

    No notice before loss of
    service sounds serious
    to me.

    TIO are good… Maybe both
Optus & your ISP will get
    pinged for your loss.

    You may also get compen-
    sated; at least Ask for
    some compensation for
    your loss, above & beyond
    what you paid for month(s)
    w/ no service

    I Am Not A Lawyer… ;~)

    • Just to clarify its not MyNetFone cutting my sister off early.

According to MyNetFone Optus has decommissioned the entire local DSLAM (not just my sisters port) because they were mistakenly told that NBN was active and Optus was no longer needed in the area

If true it isn't MyNetFone's fault it was Optus making a major mistake

Are there other adsl ISPs using Optus as a backbone as they are probably affected too.

Thanks for the info, we are contacting the TIO tomorrow but was still wondering if this is the first time anyone has heard of this happening

Quite a bad time to happen coming in to a week of public holidays with no internet, also a problem as landline number was dependent on this copper connection

  • UPDATE Spintel are going to get my sister to pay for a 4G Wireless Modem to keep her going till the NBN is ready and once that happens they will give her a full refund for the Modem when it is returned (unfortunately because of the holidays she may not receive it until the 26th,29th onwards depends on Australia post or courier etc)

  • Yes, Eastwood NSW suddenly disconnected this week, dail the support hotline, entered a long……queue. Never got through
