Cutting costs all over the company (Staff and hours) and what do we do, allow thieves to have free reign over what they can return without a receipt. We reduce to clear fruit and veg, all they have to do is return it for a full refund. Trust us Mr Berger get your head out your sphincter and maybe you can see for what this really is, a stupid idea.

  • Little tip: similar thing at Coles. Coles staff have it in their training manual. They'll probably ask questiosn though. But I think Coles even take it a little further, in that you don't even need to return anything….

  • I'm unsure what the point of this is?

They had, or still have the policy where you can bin any fruit/veg you deem not high quality.

I can't imagine anyone would bring in fruit/veg from home to return it, so its all just advertising in disguise then.

    • If I buy F&V and it's crap, I take it back and always get a full refund or replacement. I have rarely even been asked a question in Coles or Woolies TBH, they just know the stuff's crap sometimes!

It's one of my pet peeves, nothing worse than getting a bag of nice looking mandarins home to find they're dry & nasty inside. I just call them on the day, get the supervisor's name, wait til I'm headed that way next, take the bag & receipt et voila, refund! ;)

      • +1

        Good tips

        Based on your explanation, thats

        1. Correct use of this guarantee
        2. A wise way to get around the trip back costs

Obviously storing in fridge would make sense unless it was bananas.

Although personally I would try to keep the receipt, just so I felt more comfortable

        • Yeah, the staff are always cool about it too; they've probably been caught with the same bad batch themselves! ;)

One supervisor actually put me onto the 'wait til I'm headed back that way' caper herself. As she said, it's not reasonable to expect the customer to drive back immediately, and store policy reflected that!

It also helps that I'm a receipt hoarder; great at tax time too! :)

        • I got some cheese from Coles that smelt suspicious. They tried to tell me, it's the type of cheese, it is different to other cheeses. So I gave it to them to check for themselves. They quickly came back with a refund :P

That was a few years back and I only had problems with one piece of cheese.

But I had the receipt and they did try to pass off that the product was okay.

        • i bought orange juice from woolies around 6 years ago, it was the worst taste ever, it seems the oj was mixed with some chemical, then i returned it that night, then the supplier do the testing then i got the call from the supplier saying everything was okay. i should asked one of the woolies staff to taste that oj that night.

  • go to harris farms instead, much tastier fruits. I hate getting mandarines from woolies that are dry as a chip!! yuck.

    • I've had good & bad from both to be honest. I'm gonna have to start asking the staff to let me try one before I buy…I actually think that's ok with them, I've seen heaps of people do it, I'm just too lazy or rushed mostly! ;)

  • Used to work at a Woolworths store. We've always taken back bad produce and offered a replacement or refund.
A lot of the time we'd even give the customer a refund and allow them to replace the produce at no cost, for the inconvenience.

  • iga has a 200% guarantee (receipt required)

if you are not totally happy with your fresh purchase we will immediately replace the product free, plus refund the value?

    • But are IGA expensive? D:

      • And Woolies are not????? I haven't found them to be any dearer on most F& V.

        • Fact: All IGA's are more expensive in Brisbane then Woolworths/Coles/Aldi.

Most people just don't pay attention and assume they are similar.

This should be for the whole country as well, IGA said themselves that they can't compete because they are a smaller company etc. The best they can do is have good specials and perhaps similar fruit/veg

      1. buy f&v that look like they might be bad or going bad soon
      2. Return them to IGA with reciept
      3. ???
      4. Healthy Profit
  • On the other hand…

Maybe "imperfect" and "bad" are different things. I wonder my tomatoes and bananas, which appear quite nice but are very often severely lacking in taste, count as "bad".
