Vancouver to whistler to Jasper area to Lake Louise / Banff to Calgary.
Or alternatively, whistler to revelstoke to Lake Louise to Banff to ice field pathway to Edmonton.

I've had to rock up to a few motels/hotels at the last minutes during a month long road trip in Canada (around BC and through rockies). Didn't get any discounts and had to book 2 of them online while standing in reception because they wouldn't even match the online travel agent rates.
