we barely have full 4K support lol

    • +7

Nothing better than upscaling your HD FTA channels to 8k!

      • +2

What about those SD channels. They should look super awesome.. Not.

        • Enhance.

  • My eyesight isn't that good, 720p for me.

  • +2

Seriously though, comparing a 4k to 8k for a 65" display, is there really enough difference to warrant buying the TV?

  • +7

and foxtel still charge extra for HD

    • Miking it whilst they can.

    • So does Netflix

      • But netflix HD is still cheaper than 5 cups of coffee a month

        • So is Kayo - depending on where you buy your coffee

  • Living in 3019

  • +2

Buy it so u can see more cells on excel

  • +5

    8K….

Now you get to see what’s inside the pores of people’s noses.

  • +2

So the $888 JB gift card is for all those 8k movies right?

    • That don't exist?

  • +2

I don't know how I can survive with my $1,000 TV.

  • +2

Well you'll need to plug that undersea Internet cable directly to your 8K TV
Good Luck with the NBN lol

    • +1

They say 25mbps for a 4k stream so lets just say 60mbps for 8K give or take, which could easily be done on FTTP 100/40.

      • +1

Proper 1080p is higher than that.

        Heavily compressed maybe…

        • Yep my streams are usually 70 - 90mbps.

      • My house won't go past 30mbps :p

    • +3

“[We] are absolutely confident that 25 megs is going to be enough, more than enough, for the average household.”
Tony Abbott. Joint press conference, 9 April, 2013

      RIP NBN.

  • I'm sure in a few months the gift card will be $2000 and the price would have dropped by $3000. I just cant see anyone buying these.

Shut up and take my money ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

  • -1

    Yeah, nah.

Maybe when the 82" is $2,999.

    • -1

Looks like you'll be upgrading in 2030.

      • -1

LOL, yeah right, people said to me keep waiting when I wanted the Hisense 75" P7 for $1,700 when it was $2,400, I got it for $1,650. That was 6-9 months apart.

Realistically, I'll be upgrading in 2024.

        • Your 'realistic' assumption is based on nothing. 4K has been on the market here for 6~ years and I would say majority of people still don't have one. Considering a 82" 4K is still $6000 this late into the development cycle - that leads me to think you'll be waiting well past 2024 for a sub $3000 82" 8K TV.

Not saying 8k's will or won't be that cheap, but definitely not in that size.

  • +4

Pity the 82 inch can’t fit in the bathroom. Have to make do with the 75.

i logged in just so i could up-vote your comment, thank you for the lolz

Needs a $8888 Gift card to be competitive.

This tv is the equivalent of driving a Ferrari through peak hour traffic

  • -2

    Thanks bought 10.

    • Why stop there? Buy us one too.

  • Thanks OP. Bought the whole set.

  • Figures - I only just upgraded to 4k.

  • What the..82inch tv….imagine someone use it as monitor..

    • I should hook up a commodore64 to it. What do you think?

  • 8K is around iMax resolution right? Will take about 80-100mbps to stream. My internet maxes out at 14mbps so out of reach for me lol.

    • +5

8K at 80-100Mbps is very compressed. You would lose a lot of details to achieve that bitrate.

As a comparison, the latest Avengers' 4K bluray has an average bitrate of 57.5Mbps.
The latest Mission Impossible 4K bluray averages at 83.9Mbps.
And that is compressed using HEVC.

8K has 4 times the number of pixels as 4K and would theoritically require 4 times the bitrate to keep the same level of detail…

      • Is that for streaming?
What about physical media when and if it becomes available?

        • Those numbers are for the tracks (video and audio) on the physical media. When the 8K medias come out, if they still use HEVC, I would not be surprise if we see an average bitrate of 200Mbps+

A 4K stream on the internet (Netflix, YouTube etc) would require less bandwidth because the content is compressed a lot more.

Obviously, the more you compress, the more details you lose.

Edit: I might also add that not all 4K blurays have been finished at 4K to start with. I do not want to write a book about it but basically, many of today's movies are finished at 2K, due to costs, and upscaled to 4K for the bluray release (including Avengers) hence losing half of the details of a true 4K content.
It will be a while until we can enjoy true 4K releases on our 4K TV, and even longer until we get true 8K content.

  • Who has 15k to spare on a TV… And if you do what makes this TV better than a 82" Samsung NU8000 for 3.5k which is more than 3 times less it's price. This aren't a great deal especially when 8k is basically non existent

  • Are these just 1 year warranty?

  • this isnt that expensive compared to q9, the 65'' 4k q9 is just ~$2k cheaper than 65'' 8k after gift card. i would of thought 8k would be much more expensive.

    • -1

That just shows the q9 is badly priced

  • Is there actually any content available that will benefit 8K? Not even new cameras such as GoPro or Mavic 2 comes with 8K video.

I think I will get the Soniq 75" for $995 instead and enjoy my 3yr warranty and spend the $10k elsewhere 😎

  • Samsung: "We missed OLED so let's jump to 8k and price it stupid high so everyone thinks we're still relevant"

    • every company has 8k. samsung is just the first.

  • +1

Can't wait for 8k adult entertainment where you can see where future STD's may be forming before it happens.

Also 8k wallpapers and screensavers oh man.
