Ozbargainer level: Ultimate
$9.98, and they fit nicely when wearing motorbike helmets.
Those wrap around cancer council sunnies. They look really good. Latest fashion.
The only person I've ever seen wearing those in the news was Gerry Pedo Risdale but I like 'em.
Black Ice Polarized from the pharmacy. 2 pairs for $30.
Which pharmacy?
Cancer council sunglasses
I use these First pair lasted 2 years. Seller packages well so they arrive undamaged.
If your health insurance covers optical you get get two pairs from spec savers.
Is this even if they aren't prescription?
Yep.
Maybe it's just my Specsavers, but I've always had to get a "weak" prescription on the sunnies. Would love to hear just how many ppl get sunnies covered without prescription.
I like Arnette. Look good and can get replacement lenses quite cheaply (~$25). Will still pay ~$180 for the sunglasses though.
My fav glasses brand
reduced from $72 in store but you pay for postage.

Yes those $5 bolle sidewinder glasses are awesome and can get different tints
I just wear $8 protective glasses from the local hardware store…they look ok and are easily replaceable
I just get these because I’m really good at losing sunglasses.
And they’re pretty.3d glasses from the movies? They're polarised :)
I personally wear the Protector ones from Bunnings.
Serengeti brown lenses are great, Catch of the day often has deals that are pretty good.
there a sports glasses from aldi that come on sale now and again.
great value for the pricing.I wear the Persol Steve McQueen Special Edition. They fold up and pop in my suit pocket.
If you want ultra cheap, Kmart ($5-$10) or if I'm in the market for brands I usually wait & get 50% off at SGH sales.
Yeah I wouldn't cheap out on sunnys, they actually do serve a purpose other than to look cool on yourself. They protect your eyes from uv light and various other harmful rays that get into your eyes.
The Oakly ones are pricy but they do check all the boxes in terms of eye protection, except physical protection, such as flying shrapnel or the likes that only rated safety glasses will protect you from….dunno if there is a brand or model that has both type of protections….maybe have two glasses with you, a sunnys and a safety goggle that goes over that when you work out in the open outside? That might work….
Oakley sunglasses do provide physical protection. Oakley lenses are made from polycarbonate, the same material safety glasses are made from.
All of them including their expensive signature prizm lenses? So then I take it that they are sold in those specialized safety shops as they are rated for eye protection as well as actual safety glasses?
Yes. This is the industry ive worked in for over 15 years. I edge and fit all sorts of prescription / non prescription, branded / non branded, certified non certified safety glasses, sports glasses, goggles, and generic eyewear etc.
Regardless of whether the Oakley lenses are tinted, polarized, photochromatic, prescription / non prescription the material remains the same. Its all polycarb.
I think their Prizm lenses are nothing more than a marketing wank.
Im far from an advocate for Luxottica products and Oakley in general but from an eye health and safety perspective, they cant be faulted. They don't come with a safety certificate though.
@notoriousmob: Oh, that's nice to know, well OP there's your answer - don't skip out on Oakly's yet! :P Not unless you don't care for your eyes….unless there are other less expensive models, branded or not with equivalent eye protection, with physical protection being optional of course?

Sure maybe, but they do look cool……..especially the dark iridium ones with their mirror lenses…..mmmmm…..probably not ozbargain thing to do considering the price tag of course(but if money is no object to you…or really really want it…)….and that they rarely, if at all go on sale….
They don't come with a safety certificate though.
I'm surprised if their built to also pass a test on physical protection, they do not include a certificate to certify that it is in fact, be suitable PPE eye wear, in a work environment.
So if I were to go to work, and the work area required PPE eye wear, I could just pull out my oaklys and just wear them for the duration of my work? And if my boss ask why I am wearing sunnys for safety glasses, I reply to him/her, these actually pass as safety glasses considering the material they are built from, but aren't certified….?
@Zachary: If your work doesn't require the low or mid impact safety certification, absolutely. A lot of people get Oakleys with photochromatic lenses and use them as a more fashionable alternative to the normal run of the mill safety glasses.
Whether or not your boss is satisfied with that answer though, that's a whole different convo. Haha.
As for the iridium coating, that has been around forever. Its nothing more than a mirror coating with a jazzed up name Oakley came up. They do look cool, but they show scratches more than lenses that don't have the mirror coating. They don't scratch more, the scratches are just more noticeable.
@notoriousmob: oh there's more than one type of certification for safety glasses? Thought there was only one…..it either can withstand physical impact or it doesn't and shatters into a million pieces(or just gets pierced by the object that comes into contact with the lenses)……thus allowing those random shrapnel flying into your eyes…..

I guess not then….
@Zachary: If you are purchasing sunglasses from a reputable shop ie not a market / dodgy dollar shop. Sunnies from sunglass hut, myer service station etc are all good as far as eye health is concerned. They all have to meet an Australialian standards. Le Specs are good for affordable / fashionable specs.
If you want the best get Maui Jim or Serengeti.
@notoriousmob: What about ones from chemists or convenient stores that are like $50 or less?
wait until Sunglasses Hut has sale - its normally around 30% in winter :)
