Hi I need to get Travel Insurance for a trip to Hawaii, Canada and a cruise in Alaska. However, I have spent today ringing many companies but they won't cover me due to my pre existing condition. I had a heart attack last November and had a stent inserted. Has anyone been in a similar situation and can suggest who they obtained insurance with.
This was to be my Retirement trip after 34 years of teaching, but at present it's not looking good.
Travel Insurance for Pre Existing Conditions

Don't do it.
My Dad was insured with them. He'd been totally transparent with his prior medical issues and had a medical episode on a cruise (where he got excellent care). He passed away as a result of this medical episode.
We made a claim against Covermore in 2016.
They stuffed us about over a period of 12 months (maybe more), lost paperwork, had dad's GP, specialists, the cruise line and ourselves fill out the same form multiple times. They did everything possible to delay payment. In the end they denied the $18k claim on the grounds that it was related to the pre-existing condition (I really don't understand how it worked). In the end, my Sister and I were both beaten and gave up fighting and wore the cost.Basically, they are incompetent, don't keep good records in their document recording system and did their utmost not to pay the claim.

Doesn't mean you can't go, just means they don't cover you for THAT pre existing condition.

So assume that everything is sorted and you're all well again? What did the doctor say your risks are in the future?
Yes I have but they said "No." Thank you for your suggestion.
stay compliant with the dual anti platelet meds (probably aspirin + clopidegral) , take your statin and if you're on a beta blocker, you should not need to worry.
Try asking on Australian Frequent Flyer Forums - they should have some good knowledge on this topic.
Thank you JimmyF. My cardiologist I consulted and I was told just to take my tablets. He also said on an earlier visit that I will live to a 100. However not being covered is a worry. But you have given me something to think about. Thank you for that.
I used southern cross travel insurance, paid a bit more but was covered
Thank you paraneoplastic for your comment.
salekhard I will look at those forums. Thank you.
Oh thank you bloom I have not heard of southern cross travel insurance. I will look into it now.
Do you want travel insurance for your pre existing condition? If you are willing to exclude coverage for pre existing there are some companies that will take you - Google will bring up some
I did mine online through a CBA. credit card insurance, answered the pre existing conditions questions and it came back with a dollar figure.
My stent was over a year back before the trip if that makes a difference.
CBA has also changed their insurance provider since I used them for a recently trip.
Try Insure and Go. They cover you for quite a few pre existing conditions.
Insure and Go or Southern Cross
I have a different pre existing ondition and the only Insurer i. Could find to cover me is All Clear insurance. I also found that getting an annual policy worked out cheaper as I have a few trips coming up

Thank you all for your suggestions.
Cover More, and Insure and Go would not insure me, but NIB would as would Southern Cross.
Information that may assist others, NIB give a discount for members.Just wanted to say thanks for posting this. Southern Cross were one of the few who would insure me without me needing to take extra insurance for my pre-existing conditions that don't affect my ability to travel and a visit to the emergency department that happened this year.
I appreciate the advice here as clear advice was difficult to find.
The thing I did notice was they made me take extra cover for the higher cost of the trip, but that was not related to the health issues.
Have you tried Covermore? My mother had a similar issue and I seem to recall that may have been the one that covered her.
