Rushfaster Asked Me to Send More Details

Hi All

Before i hand over any information, has anyone ever received this? If so why do they need this data and can they do anything with my data?

Thank you for placing an order on rushfaster.com.au. Your order number is: #T0N11DLNG.

Due to various reasons we require further details from you before we can dispatch your order. We apologise in advance for the inconvenience however we are sure that you can appreciate the steps we are taking in order to protect fellow credit card holders.

Please download and complete the form from:
https://rushfaster.com.au/documents/cca-form.pdf

The form asks for a scan of the front and back of your credit card; feel free to black out/cover the expiry date and 3-digit code on the reverse of the card. If it's more convenient, a digital image of a utility bill etc. showing your address would suffice in place of a driver's licence or passport.

Please Note: Your order cannot proceed until this card authority and accompanying legible documents have been received by Rushfaster.

Thanks,
Rushfaster.com.au

  • Just protecting themselves against CC fraud.

  • Pretty standard. Hopefully their email system (and yours) is PCI compliant and they do destroy it…

Not standard at all, and by protecting themselves against CC fraud they are putting you at massive risk of identity theft. I'd be asking myself how much I really need the things they're selling, and if I could get them elsewear

    • Please see our response below. We don't believe there is a major risk of identity theft as we protect this information. Also PDFs can be password protected for email transmission. We won't do anything knowingly to risk our customers information.

    buy from somewhere else …

don't send your credit card details or drivers license via email ffs!

    • yup told them to either send the item or return my money

    • We have responded below, but we will also request people to cover the middle 8 digits of the credit card number in the future.

  • This is very odd!

Did they charge your credit card?

    • yes they did charged me but asked for more details sent them an email telling them to either refund my money or send the package if they are security concerned.

BTW i scrambled the order number :)

      • +1

Even odd-er that they would charge your c/c before receiving the completed c/c Authority that they emailed you.

Good to know though if this happens to anyone else

    • We charge cards at time of transaction as this is the optimal way for both parties… But we do have a responsibility to ensure the transaction is not fraudulent.

  • Hi.

I completely appreciate where you are coming from. No one wants identity theft. Please let me explain what we're trying to do here.

Credit card fraud is a very real issue that affects the retailer predominately. Here's how… If someone uses someone else's card fraudulently, the bank will take the money back from the retailer if they cannot prove that the cardholder made the transaction (the credit card authority form does this). Individual retailers lose tens of thousands of dollars annually in credit card fraud because card not present transactions carry this risk.

Occasionally our system thinks that an order is a greater risk than another order and requires further information about that order. That's what happened to your order. We tried to call you but the call went straight to voicemail, this is what usually happens when there is a greater fraud risk. So our team sent a credit card authority email. Whilst we dislike doing this, this is standard practice and happens at many online retailers for good reasons. Whilst I appreciate the insecure nature of email, it's often the best way to do this. Our email really should tell you to hide the middle 8 digits of your credit card as they are not needed for this check and this would make things a lot more secure for you, we'll fix that. But the main thing we really need is to verify that your signature is yours and matches the back of your card and that this is the card that the transaction occurred on. Then we need to verify that you live at that address.

Whilst, not the best solution possible, our fraud process is designed to protect ourselves, card holders, customers and also 3rd parties that unknowingly are being taken advantage of. Quite often credit card fraudsters take advantage of people with disabilities to do the legwork of their crimes. In the past, this process has prevented this happening and we've reported issues to the police who have then gone on to make arrests or uncover crime syndicates.

Shortly, we will be introducing more secure ways to pay online such as Apple Pay and the likes to prevent this inconvenience, though we're just not there right now. I hope that gives you greater trust in us and clears up why we sometimes (< 0.5%) need to ask for an authority for the transaction. If you have any questions, comments or feedback please let me know directly.

I understand that our team has sorted this issue for you, I hope you have a great week.
