Bunnings Gave Me $100 Discount Without Asking!

Not sure if this is a known hack or not. But I was blown away by what just happened today and had to share my win.

Was looking for a Ryobi Line Trimmer worth $99 that the website said had in stock. The shelf was empty so I asked a red shirt if there's some out back and showed them the website saying they had some. She checked her gizmo and confirmed they had two in store. After just a few minutes calling around and looking she said she might be able to give me the next model up at the same price?! The next model was the $199 brushless version!! Couple of minutes later she called her manager, he had a look too and just flat out offered the $199 one for $99. I didn't even ask!

Best Bunnings trip ever! I wanted the Brushless model but couldn't justify the extra $100.

Be keen to know if anyone else has had this same experience?

Ryobi margins are super high. They probably still made something on that.

I tried it last night in the dark lol. I ran an edge on about 30m of thick couch and weed. It worked about the same as my old 25cc smoke machine. The unit feels nice and solid. The high speed mode worked better than my 25cc. So far so good!

I've also been on a bit of a tool spree the last couple of months and bought myself a Ryobi brushless impact drill and brushless blower. Was expecting more of the blower compared to my second hand corded ozito blower. But still does the job required.

      • This is standard op for bunnings, your color of paint is os in the cheap brand they sell you dulux at the same price ect. Its about keeping you in their store, ive had it happen afew times on various things.

      • cheers for the update

After painting our bathroom ceiling white, we noticed that it was turning brown after a few weeks so we went to Bunnings to ask for some advice and the guy gave us a $20 can of mould resistant primer for free without us even needing to purchase anything. He told the person at the cash register to put it through as something like 'customer satisfaction'. Needless to say, this customer was satisfied

    • What paint did you use?

  • Any Bunnings employees out there know if this is a new policy? So often I go looking for something and they can't find it either even though the system says they have stock.

    • Rang a Bunnings store,
they told me they had stock,
      drove over there,
      couldn’t find it,
asked someone who waved me, vaguely, where I had already been looking,
      Went home disappointed.

However, usually the Bunnings people are quite helpful; if a tad busy.

Every time now they can't find something I'm going to ask nicely for an alternative product at the same price. Guess it depends on who you ask

Rumor has it that most bunnings employees know the system is not accurate especially if stock is low stuff gets knocked off and is still counted in the system as it hasn't gone through the register and considered sold.
Best thing to do is to ring and ask to be put through the department you are after so the stock can be physically seen!!!

The only decent offer I ever got from them was picking up a $1100 Karcher HD 5/11C for $299. The only fault was a missing $119 nozzle. Still a sizable discount.
