  • It really depends on your usage behaviour to determine if a deal suits you. I prefer the current Boost $150 with 80G yearly plan because I make overseas calls which is included whereas the Kogan one doesn't. I don't use that much data while on the go so Boost wins it for me. Unfortunately my Kogan doesn't finish till July this year so not sure if Boost still has this deal around at that time.

  • +1

The 13gb plan with Kogan isn't much difference to the Boost version ($205 up front cost compared to $200). Granted you get unlimited international calls but like someone said above, Skype makes that almost redundant.

Also being on the Telstra network might help in more rural areas but Voda works fine for me.

When I first joined Kogan I think I was getting 6gb a month and they kept giving me data bumps to the point where I'm getting 15gb a month now for the same price.

I think I'll reward that loyalty by renewing with them.

    • +4

$200 on Boost gives you 10gb a month vs 13gb a month on Kogan. So you're paying 2.5% more for Kogan to get 30% more data. I'm not even seeing how these plans are comparable for urban residents.

  • +3

    still too expensive

  • +2

Kogan's 1-3 month deals are great but this is not that great.

    • Only if you love porting out and back in all the time, 90 days with 20gb/mth for $14.90 is super value, but they don't look after existing customers, giving us same deal to recharge instead. Now forcing everyone to leave …

      • They've routinely upgraded existing customers' plans' data. Look at the comments on the deals where this is announced. I started on 16gb/month 12 month plan and this has been upgraded to 23gb/month, 32gb/month and now to 40gb a month for the same if not better price.

      • I'm sort of used to that. I've been hopping back and forth and the best deal I found is the one you exactly said. I'm on it right now but I don't know what I'll do once it ends.

  • +2

I tend to recall almost 12 months ago i got a 20gb plan for arou d 17 bucks a month from kogan. This deal seems just average

  • Where's Boost's equivalent of the 40gb/month plan

    • +1

      There isn’t one.

Also, Optus doesn’t appear to have anything remotely close to these either.

Kogan (with this regular deal) still wins for high data users.

Also, the Vodafone network (last time I checked) was still the only network supporting visual voicemail on iOS.

  • Others have already pointed out the current Boost deal but I will just throw in the Optus Prepaid Epic Value also seems to be better than this assuming coverage is good for you.
    Optus Prepaid Epic Value $180
    Expiry 365 days
Data 60GB - Can roll over data
    Unlimited standard talk
    Unlimited standard SMS/MMS

    • The Optus deal was even better when it was going for $120

  • +5

Too little, too late Mr Kogan. Ported from Kogan to Boost this morning on the $150 / 80GB plan.

    • +4

Also I can confirm that you can buy Boost from Woolworths self checkout with discounted eGift Cards - so it's actually $142.5

      • Do you mean you can buy Boost recharge voucher from Woolworhts and use it with the one year plan or there's one year starter pack?

  • +4

I'll be moving to Boost when my Kogan deal expires in June.

I've looked at my internet usage for the last 6 months with Kogan and I've only used 32GB.

  • +2

I'm also moving to Boost. Better reception on road Trips, and free AFL streaming :). Ruslan sharpen your pencils!!

    • I don't think you get free AFL streaming with Boost…

      • It is free, free Apple music data steaming too.

        • Can you show me a link to the website that says this?

I can see that Apple music if free.

          • @jv: It just works and no charge, check out other comments in the Boost deal, also on the Whirlpool forum. One of my family members has been using it.

            • @Xtreme Detailing: OK, so it works but isn't mentioned as a selling feature on their website ??

  • Does anybody know when this deal ends? I can't see any specific dates on the deal page.

    • 16/5 according to the Kogan Homepage. Then have until 17/7 to activate.

  • +9

The Kogan marketing department will be very disappointed as this deal turns out to be promoting the Boost offers lol.

  • +1

You couldn't pay me to use Kogan/Vodafone. Can't wait to leave Kogan later this year.

    • +5

To the contrary, it seems that you are paying them.

  • Don't these price revolutions go in cycles? Maybe Vodafone hasn't had its turn yet.

We're reaching the point where the average person (who doesn't stream) won't care about data provisions anymore.

I just don't want to spend more than $10 a month for a home line replacement. Ever. Since I don't Netflix I'm currently achieving that with the $4.95 SIMs and a Belong referral train and it's become my new normal.

  • +2

Nah thanks. I'll be getting the Boost plan in 2 months time.

  • +6

I don't get why everyone's so against this. If you're a mild to heavy user, Kogan is a way better deal.

I only use my mobile data for music streaming most days and that uses 15gb minimum each month. So Kogan is the best way.

I'm surprised people are still able to use data under 6gb with current online services available. But everyone's different.

    • +1

Apple music data streaming is free with Boost.

      • +2

Great news for anyone who uses that 😁
        I do not

  • +2

I've been with Kogan for the past 3 years under the Vodafone network. I've found the Vodafone network over the past 6 months not as good as it previously was in the Sydney metro area so I'll be looking elsewhere in July.

    • +3

I've been with Kogan for 2 years now, no complaints whatsoever. However, I will be making the switch to Boost like many others.

I speak with my friend in Canada all the time and when they are out and about, they don't have much mobile data to work with and keep it off most of the time (since its so expensive over there!) so having that option works for my situation.

Although the data/$ is in Kogans favour, the data sacrifice is worth it in my case.

Depends on what people want I suppose.

  • +2

Time for Boost, try harder Kogan!!

  • So I bought a voucher a while back for the 40GB/month plan to use as a recharge for my existing Kogan Mobile account and I keep encountering this error:

"You already have the maximum number of allowed plans. Please contact Customer Care on 12612 if you require further assistance"

whenever I try and use the voucher code to recharge. I have the one account and am trying to recharge that one account yet it just doesn't seem to work. I called up the customer support and it seemed like they just didn't understand what I was saying and said they increased the expiry date. One of them claimed I need to wait for my current plan to expire before I recharge it, which makes me wonder do I lose my current phone number then? I'm just left wondering why it won't bloody work, or what am I doing wrong?

    • +1

You may have bought the starter sim voucher that is meant for activating a new Kogan mobile number or for porting in a current non-Kogan mobile number. That would mean that the voucher you bought cannot be use for recharging your current Kogan mobile number.

  • I had a Kogan 12 month SIM installed in LTE router. Was VERY dubious about data usage measurement. Seemed to go through so much data without using any streaming or youtube services. Primarily browsing & facebook, whirlpool. Still looking for an alternate replacement for use in weekender home which would visit every 3 weeks for weekend only. Coverage was good in small coastal town

    • I had the same issue. I was advised to "look into Telstra Air as there might be coverage.

If so, swap out your LTE router for an old mobile, install the Air app, share the connection, and you're golden."

I haven't tried it yet. Also I read an interesting post somewhere on Ozb about only needing a Telstra SIM in the phone when first registering on the app. Suggesting you could borrow a SIM from someone on the Telstra network who doesn't use Air, install and set up the app on your old mobile, give them back the SIM then use the phone as a wireless router with no SIM. Which seemed… Intriguing. But again, I've not tested /confirmed these things first hand so YMMV.

      • I just wish there was Telstra air available as I wouldn't need a Kogan SIM- home internet is with Telstra so could use data allowance.

I have no doubt Kogans data usage measurement is WAY out - it wasn't an isolated month- every month the same - a weekends browsing could use 10 Gb data

  • +1

Had untold drama with Kogan/Vodafone!!! Each refused to assist in any way, even at their retail outlets & each blamed the other, this went on for over six weeks with NO service. We are sworn to NEVER use Kogan or Vodafone ever again. Besides their coverage where we live with Vodafone is CRAP!!! Under 1MBs on speed test! The Kogan 365 day plan ends this month —- Yeah!!! :o)Boost all the way. especially as they are the only provider with rollover data!

  • +2

    3GB/month plan = $152.10 (equates to $12.70 per month)

Boost's $150GB (~6.67GB per month) still beats the hell of Kogan.

    Boost = Telstra +ve
    Kogan = Vodafone -ve

Boost = international calls to listed + 1200mins to unlisted country +ve
    Kogan = none -ve

    • +1

Boost comes with VoLTE and WiFi Calling, as well as free AFL and Apple Music data streaming. I find that the battery lasts noticeably longer after switching from Kogan to Boost.

  • Kogan has served me well this past 12 months but I might give one of those 6 x 28 Groupon deals a go then switch out again to whatever is cheapest.

Don't really need more than a few gb of data may ability to call in and out and check Google maps and store info every now and then which doesn't take many megabytes.

Just scared of Amaysim has bad porting out service.

I was burnt by Vaya charging me months after I left them.

They did some illegal dirty stuff so not taking chances with Vaya again but Amaysim seem legit just gotta take off payment methods and recharge after 6th renewal finished.

  • Looking at the Boost $150 plan. Do they give you the 80GB up front or is there a monthly allowance? ie. Is it possible to use all 80GB in the first month?

Is it just me or is anyone else finding that this page is broken
    https://www.telstra.com.au/coverage-networks/check-imei
Enter in my IMEI > click Check > nothing happens.

  • Approaching my renewal in Aug, but 254.3/240= $1.06 a gigabyte , doesn't look what it was a year ago. I'm def contemplating a twice-bigger network inc the extra frills cover in ~$1.87/GB (MAR-'19), elsewhere.
Kogan has come up with 90 days/ 25c gb, $15 that represents a real bargain to the extent it resets the floor price for town data as expected.

But I saw that the main providers getting stuck into eSIMs most lately. It would be best that a techno company like Voda AU NOT be on the back foot, but instead could make eSIM profiles downloadable for Russ's Google Pixel user/ android Quindims, complementing Prepaid. Follow Europe's example:- https://www.vodafone.de/hilfe/mobiles-telefonieren/esim.html…

12 of us that’s both family members and friends have switched from Kogan to Boost’s $150 plan. It’s been a good 12 months with Kogan unless Boost scraps this new $150 plan otherwise it’s nearly impossible we will look back at Kogan.
