This SSD makes a pretty good boot drive/drive to store your games.

Seems to be going for $190+ elsewhere according to Google Shopping, so this is a pretty good deal.

  • Hot damn..Finally some MLC goodness for cheap!

    • I have got 2 SLC hard drives

      • Hope you're enjoying your 'SLC' 'Hard drives'

          so 'hard'.

  • Someone mentioned drives were dropping in price this year.. is this the beginning of good deals? Or is it just a good deal at the moment?

    • +2

I think this is a fairly good deal, especially if you need a drive now. Also a good deal if you are going to be buying more stuff from mwave. If you can wait, then I guess you should.

Sorta building, sorta waiting for Ryzen 3. The Ozbargainer in me doesnt want to spend any more than I have to!

Only ask because I grabbed a m2 1TB for around $290 which was I thought was a great price at the time, then I think I saw it recently for about $270

Think I'll bite on this as the $50 can be used for other build parts!

        • You could use the $50 to offset a GPU/CPU!

@meista: Yeah, I'm thinking about using it for something in the $100-200 mark and wait for 20% off eBay for things in the $250+ mark to get more bang for buck

  • Why not get a 970 evo instead? They are around 150 on sale.

    • Huh? A 970 Evo is like $100 more than this.

    • Isn't a 970 an M2?

      • Yes, I assume most relatively new motherboards also have m.2 slots.

        • Yeah, but usually only one or two of them. More people with older gear would be able to use the SSD 860 is what I'm thinking.

If it was a totally new build, the m2 would be a nicer option

If your workload includes a lot of writing to the drive, you're probably better off with the 860 Pro cause of that MLC NAND, which Samsung provides warranty for up to 600 TBW compared to 300 TBW on the 500GB 970 Evo Plus.

Yes, I know 860 Pro is limited by SATA3 and is significantly slower than the 970 Evo Plus.
