[Beta - Completed] Two-Factor Authentication

Beta users can now add two-factor authentication to their user accounts.

Two-factor authentication will be optional for those who wish add an extra layer of security to their existing username/password. We only recommend this feature to those who are experienced with using two-factor authentication apps such as Authy or Google Authenticator. Note that it is the user's responsibility to back up the secret key and back-up codes - given that we collect very little personal information, it is difficult for us to verify your identity should you lose access to your account.

To setup two-factor authentication, go to 'My Account' -> 'Settings' -> 'security' and follow the instructions there.

Comments

  • We only recommend this feature to those who are experienced with using two-factor authentication apps such as Authy(authy.com) or Google Authenticator(support.google.com).

There are many others. Lastpass has a Authenticator app as well.

    • Feel free to use any app that is compatible, those are just two example apps that we have tested.

  • +3

Authy is great, been using it forever, the backup feature is the main reason!

  • How do we become a beta user?

    • You can look for a 'Show beta features' checkbox in your account settings. There is further information on this wiki page on who can see this setting.

  • As I put in general feedback:

With 2fa can you set the input field to numbers so it's easy to enter on mobile?

I'm surprised that this wasn't picked up in beta. Maybe everyone just cut and paste. That however doesn't work with different devices.

    • The OTP is six digits. Only the backup-codes are alphanumeric. For everyday use you should only need the OTP - backup codes are for when you've lost access to your 2fa app or lost your device.

      • Exactly. So the input field to enter the six digit otp should be set to tell the browser to use the numeric keypad.

I will rustle up the appropriate links.

        • Ok I get it - the input field type, sorry for misunderstanding your request

        • There is now an inputmode=numeric attribute on the OTP input field.

  • How can I disable this feature? Can no longer login on any of my family's shared computers/tablets !!
