They did it for free for me a few years ago. I was about to go overseas and spoke to them on the live chat and they gave me the unlock code, no troubles at all.
Find a friend or someone with an existing long time customer account with Optus. Get them to hop on chat live, verify their details and give the phone IMEI of the Huawei and they should be able to give you an unlock code. I actually made a post on it last year, have a read if you need more info.

Took Imhereforcomments advice and gave Optus live chat option a go.
they said it will take 3 to 5 working days to get the unlocking code via email as they have to contact the manufacture for the code.
so waiting for it

Prepaid, postpaid? It might be easier to do it through Optus, I think its free after certain conditions?
Its $25 on prepaid after 6 months with the phone.

Otherwise (and I haven't tried this so don't know) you can see if there is a stock rom for the device, Optus is the one who creates a custom rom with a network lock, android (and google) and Huawei don't so you if you could flash it to stock I think it unlocks (but you'd have to know what you're doing and I think it resets the phone).
