Hi All,
I'm currently looking to buy my first projector for my new house. I've been doing a little bit of research on the spec's of various models and what to look out for, but I must say I see a lot of conflicting opinions and reviews and would like your help.
My family would like to have a 120" fixed screen, so a projector that has a good throw for this screen size would be good. The room will also have the walls painted black and any light source (e.g windows) will be blacked out with a blackout curtain. We intend to make the room as dark as possible. We will also intend to mount the projector to the ceiling
The projector will be mainly used for viewing film and TV, except for the occasional ps4 game every now and then.
Currently, I'm deciding whether it is even worth getting a 4k projector or just sticking with a 1080p projector. Getting a 4K projector will future proof my build, but right now it doesn't seem that there's much 4k content for me to fully utilize the projector (please correct me if I'm wrong). I am content with buying a 1080p projector if the majority of media content still utilizes it but if everything is now switching to 4k then i would consider buying an entry level 4k projector.
I have been looking at a few models which are listed down below:
Sony VPL-HW45ES (1920 x 1080, contrast 120k:1 ,1800lm)
Optoma UHD50 DLP 4K Home Theatre Projector (UHD 3840x2160,contrast:500k:1,2400lm)
(willing to consider any alternative projectors you have in mind)
I'm a little confused about the contrast of both of these projectors, although the ratio is higher for the optoma, user reviews say that the Sony contrast is much better, does that mean that the Optoma contrast isnt true? Ultimately, I just want the best picture quality (which i know can be subjective) I can get on a budget under $2500AUD.
The sony has low latency and latency should be the priority when choosing a display specifically for games. I can't speak to any of your other questions and I'd recommend discussing this in person with someone who knows projectors. This is a niche question and I think you'll find better answers by looking through reviews and discussing with specialists.
