Samsung Care+ seems pretty good, am I wrong?

Samsung care+.

Hey guys just read up on the Samsung store about Samsung care+. So you buy a phone, and add $229 for two years coverage. It gets you two trade ins, for $129 each go. So basically you can upgrade to the latest galaxy phone each year for example, buy S10e for $999+$229 =$1228, then upgrade to new galaxy each year for two years which means three phones for $1228 + $129 + $129 = $1486. Potential savings of around $2500 if I got another two galaxy S10 equivalent right?

Edit: that is guys I now understand, refurb of same or similar device.

A swap device is usually a refurbished device of the same model as your current device. If this is not available, we’ll provide a comparable model.

And you have to buy Samsung Care+ at the same time you buy your phone off Samsung = RRP, no discount

Given you're getting a refurb, it's unlikely you'd get another model. You would simply be swapping your 1yo phone, for a refurb of the same model…

    • Samsung has discount on s10e right now $200 off. Refurbished is like new. You could get s11 in one year for $129.

      • Refurbished is like new.

So is the phone you're swapping…

        • If something goes wrong with your phone with any brand you get a refurb. I have never had any issues and they were as new.

No, you'd still be given an S10e or whatever your phone is

They're not randomly giving you the new model.

It seems like you're seeing what you want to see, rather than what's actually written.

        • You choose the phone though. Right now you can get S9, S9+, note 9, s10e, S10 or S10+.

          • @onlinepred: Yes, you can buy those phones… Doesn't mean you can buy an S9 now then expect to swap to an S10+…

            • -2

@spackbace: Why not? Where does it say you can't? It lists the phones available to care plan.

No, you don't. That's not how it works. You get whatever device you originally had unless super rare chance they literally have zero stock left anywhere.

            • @Hybroid: Oh okay, where does it say that?

                What is a Swap Request?
A swap request allows you to swap your eligible device with the same or similar device on the payment of a swap fee.

@Hybroid: Similar? So a phone with the same swap price?

                    Reading comprehension isn't hard.

        • "Swap fee for all eligible devices is $129 except for Galaxy S10+ 1TB where the swap fee is $199."

What do you mean? Did you read it?

          • @onlinepred: Yes, that's the costs. You don't just get a free upgrade! Omg

            • -1

@spackbace: Yes so you pay $999 for s10e, then in one year you pay get a new phone that cost you $229+129 so $348 for a new model?

                sigh
No matter how many times I repeat it you're still not gonna get it…

                • @spackbace: Let them dream haha

I purchased this for an S8+ which was going to be heavily used. Its taken a fair bit of damage and will be upgrading to an S10+ soon. Will be paying the swap fee for a replacement S8+ either to keep as spare or to pass to a family member.

Program and swap fee cost seems reasonable enough personally given the replacement will have a fresher battery etc. Certainly not expecting an upgrade

                  • @IceCreamBandit: Hey mate, how are their service in replacement? Is it on the spot, do we need to pay shipping, and how long does it take?

Just thinking the scenario if I need to replace mine if it is broken.

Seems like a good deal compared to purchasing high end military grade cases.

                    • @[Deactivated]: All up the process took 2 weeks but I imagine the Care + program for newer devices (S9 onwards) should faster.

I say this because the Samsung Care (No plus) was an old version of the current 'plus' program and isn't easily found any more. Calling Samsung's normal customer service was almost a dead end as they thought I was talking about the 'plus' program and kept saying my S8+ isn't eligible.

Once I got in touch with the right people it was quick. I filled in a form detailing the damage (cracked glass etc), they gave me a claim number and asked me to pay the claim fee ($149). Can be done over the phone with credit card or bank transfer.

Once paid, they will source a replacement device. This is what took the longest as they couldn't get an exact replacement. They tried for almost a week then got in touch and said they only had the black one to offer me as they grey was out of stock.

I wasn't fussed and once I confirmed I was happy to take the black, they sent the replacement to my preferred Samsung store.

Once it got there, I visited the store and swapped the phones over. Took about 15 minutes to fill all paperwork.

                      • @IceCreamBandit: Wow, 2 weeks! But I did the same for my old iPhone 5 when iPhone 7 is everywhere. I guess, except the lengthy phone call, they are quite good.

@cruiserbruiser: Okay so possibly in 2 years time they won't have s10e and you might get a newer model at the most. Thanks mate.

              • @onlinepred: Nope, you don't get a different model. You pay $129 for the new/refurb condition of a same model. Its meant for someone who often broke their phone, so at least they can get a replacement for $129. Not worth it IMO.

    • And you have to buy Samsung Care+ at the same time you buy your phone

      I don't think it's true

I just use optus insurance, I smash my phone on average 3 times over the contract period. Doesn't work out any more expensive than this, probably slightly cheaper

  • You can only swap for the same phone you already have. Doesn't let you upgrade.

  • +3

    yes, you are wrong.

    • Yes thanks I said that.

  • Will I be able to buy Samsung Care Plus from their edu store please?
    Thanks :)

    • +1

Yes, you can. Just tick the Samsung Care on the checkout.

  • If you register interest in the Flip 3 or Fold 3 before the launch you'll get free Care+ worth $399…. but then they also say the up front discount like student discount won't come into play.

Also, welcome to OzB OP. Hope you enjoy your stay.
