      Introduces them to coding concepts.

You can do that for free

      • +8

But you can't spend money on free stuff.

        • That's true… I guess this deal is better then.

          • +3

@jv: Got one of these for my son last Xmas in JB hi Fi sale for $249. He loves playing with it and discovered it's basic coding lab on his own and really enjoys it. There's a book you can get which teaches them more complicated programming concepts

            • +3

@CaptainCoolio: Have him look at Scratch if he hasn't already done so…

              • @jv: Yeah, it is like scratch, except you're controlling a robot. :)

                • @CaptainCoolio: You can control robots with Scratch, plus do a lot more.

            • +1

              @CaptainCoolio: how old is son?

              • @juki: He's seven. There's a tonne of videos on YouTube to give you more of an idea of what it is.

The thing is the size of a childs hand. I thought it was the size of a vacuum lol.

    • It's more like the size of a babies hand, a newborns.

      • a small newborn

        • +1

Cone to think of it, the thumbnail link at the top of the page is quite an accurate size lol

  • +11

Harvey Norman have them for the same price plus small delivery charge.

  • +6

Would have bought it if it was Vector.

    • +2

I'd have bought it if it was Scalar.

      • I wouldn't settle for anything other than Matrix

        • would have got for it if it was Curiosity

  • Purchased this a year ago at jbhifi, got bored of it after 1hour of tedious use, it’s rather limited for what it does your better of getting the Anki vector for just slightly more, way more features and can be used like a google home, not to mention it is black.

    • Purchased this a year ago at jbhifi, got bored

I often go to QBD next door when I get bored of JB.

    • +2

better of getting the Anki vector

Can you get those at Big W?

I'd prefer to get a Big W Anki

      • Na another option is the Jv Anki.

      • +1

Going by the previous comments on its size, wouldn’t it just be a Little W Anki?

    • Seems to be less features on the Anki according to youtube review. It doesn't build blocks and knock them over, and less interactive games. Also these devices need to be programmable, an API where can upload our own programs, otherwise it's just boring proprietary junk.

  • Damn missed out. Lowest now is 220.

  • +1

    And they're out of business
    https://www.gizmodo.com.au/2019/04/anki-maker-of-adorable-ro…

Could see it coming, perhaps retailers could too.

    • What the hell? They sold millions of these things, how the hell did they go bust?

Loads of stock in JB Hi-Fi etc. Let's see if they come clean, or keep flogging them at full price as they're currently doing.

We'd better see massive discounts very soon. These devices rely on the proprietary cloud services and app from Anki. If there's no company to maintain the online services, then it's a sinking ship and false advertising to sell these at anywhere near RRP. The box claims "new updates regularly", and the thing probably won't even setup properly - could be an expensive paperweight.
