Items Stolen from Auspost Parcel Lockers → Anyone Else Have This Happen to Them?

Hello forum folks,

It appears that Australia Post's Parcel Lockers are not secure… I've just had multiple items stolen from one such Parcel Locker facility (multiple lockers at the one facility), by thieves deciding to force their way into every locker :-(

Yes, I'd made online purchases which were made from deals discovered through OzBargain, naturally :-).

AusPost are aware of the issue, and I'm starting the process to deal with them over that.

My question is… Anyone else been a recent victim to theft (e.g. forced entry) at AusPost Parcel Lockers?

I'm trying to ascertain if this is a relatively "new" thing (the thieving), a wide-spread thing, or fairly isolated (thus far)?

    Thank you. Yes, that's what you get for using [relatively] bleeding edge services. Thought they'd be safer than home deliveries (not that I've ever had problems with home deliveries — but I know others have of course).

    Luckily for me these particular deliveries were not high value items, from what I can work out. But other victims at the same location wouldn't have been so lucky.

    i guess the camera doesn't do well as deterrent

      camera is only good for recording what happened. Even if watched 'live' by the time someone arrives to site, these people have come, emptied all the lockers and gone.

      They could have easily used spray paint to cover the scene of crime. I prefer those PL inside building offices or similar which arn't 24hr

        Parcel lockers are designed to be accessed 24/7. Locating the lockers behind gates and locks would be inefficient.

          If it's inside office buildings and the whatnot, at least it lessens the temptation from passing thieves.

          Our local post office you have to enter a code number to get into the area where the parcel lockers are, the code comes with the QR code email. I assume this is to stop people sleeping in there, but it would add some security.

    If it associated with a post office then you need a code to get in.

    Are you sure your items aren't just late from China - and not missing ?

    Yes. Received multiple ‘your item has arrived and your code is xxxxxx’ emails, SMS and AusPost app notifications (1 initial notification per item). Was going to pick the items up bright and early the following day. But it was too late (items pinched and parcel locker system was ‘down’).

    Local facility AusPost staff are very helpful. They’re the ones that told us items are missing. And they have explained what happened (every locker forced, every item taken, footage with Police etc.).

    Moral of the story is if you’re using Parcel Lockers, go and pick up your items straight away… problem is, sometimes they’re ‘down’, and AusPost staff can’t directly access them (open the lockers) themselves. (They had to get a technician out to access these ones, and verify that they were all empty — which they now were)…

    And of course, you can’t always get to such things when you have other priorities on.
