Hey guys! Because of the interest and success we got from our last deal, we're doing another sale for the amazing people of OzBargain! Today we're offering some great downlights! They all have a 120 degree spread of light, so you'll be getting a lot of light from them. They've also got a 3 year warranty, and because of the flex 'n' plug system, it makes changing the lights a breeze! With at least 100lm/W of power, these downlights are insanely bright, but can also be dimmed if you've got a dimmer, so you can find the perfect amount of lighting for your area.

8W downlight 5000K 820 lumens at $8.95 was $29.95 (use discount code OB8WDL to pay only $8.50 for a quantity of 20 or more of either colour!)
8W downlight 3000K 780 lumens at $8.95 was $29.95 (use discount code OB8WDL to pay only $8.50 for a quantity of 20 or more of either colour!)

10W tri colour (change between warm white, cool white and daylight) downlight with a whopping 1000 lumens only $9.95 (was $34.95)

We've also got free in store click and collect (Queensland only), free shipping for order over $99 and a flat rate of $9.95 shipping for orders under $99 (exclusions apply to WA, SA, NT and Tas)

For our last deal, we heard your concerns regarding the shipping costs and we are trying our best to make it worth your while. Do leave us feedback so we can continue to better serve this wonderful community :)

OP can these downlights have insulation laid over the top of them?

If not any deals on downlights that are rated to do so?

    • +2

Hi serpserpserp! These ones need about 50mm all around it to be 100% safe against insulation, so depending on what you've got, these may not work. However we have some downlights, like this one that is able to have insulation on it if need be, but best to double check with an electrician just to be 100% sure, as some insulation can be a bit difficult to work it :)

    • +1

You are looking for an IC rating. A lot of lights have not gone through the compliance or if they have, they can be abutted only, not covered. The other option is putting a cover over them to stop insulation touching them.

      • +1

There are quite a few options out there for covering. However I think as you say they haven't gone through the Australian compliance (NZ only I understand?) but this was almost 3 years ago when I started looking at them, I would have thought they'd be all the rage now. The one reason I hate my downlights is that there is basically very little insulation in the rooms that have them and even if they could be abutted it still ruins the insulation quality within the room.

        • Hi again serpserpserp! As andmcg1 said, there's a few options out there, but if you really want something to cover it, you need to look for an IC-F rating. You're right in that about 3 years ago they were a New Zealand only rating, and even at this point we're not 100% sure if Australia has officially adopted it too, or if we're just using NZ's system for it :P. That said, we've got quite a few brands that sell to Australia and NZ, so something like the one I linked you will let you have the insulation directly over the downlight without the need for some kind of covering or removing insulation in your room. If you have any other questions, feel free to let us know or email us back and we can help you out :)

flat rate shipping - exclusions apply to WA, SA, NT and Tas… that's 1/2 of the country not being on "flat rate" :(

    • +2

Hi Stefanko! Unfortunately we're still trying to figure out the best shipping rates for across the country, but are still working out the best options! Can you please email us at [email protected] with the quantity of downlights you were after, and which ones, and we can work out a shipping rate for you that's as cheap as possible :)?

    • +1

      Ohh no…

      • +1

Hi mikef! As we said in our previous comment, we're working on a better shipping rate to all Australians! If you could send us an email to [email protected] with your address and what you're after, we can work out a shipping rate for you :)

    • But about 10% of the population ;)

OP, are these compliant with Australian standards?

    • Depends which Australian you are asking :)

    • +2

Hi ykwon10, these are 100% compliant with Australian Standards (SAA approved), including the 3 year back to base warranty we have for them!

    No shipping to SA?

    • Hi Den! Unfortunately we're still working out the best way to ship certain products interstate for a good price, but if you'd like to email us at [email protected] with your address and how many of each one you were after, we can work out shipping for you :)

      • +1

After 4 of those 3000K. SA Metropolitan area.

        • +1

Hi Den! We've got some exciting news! We've just worked out some shipping rates to SA and WA, so if you check out our site again, you'll be able to buy them now :)!

          • @BDLT: Great!

…unfortunately the shipping is quite high!!!

I added 12 downlights to the cart for total value of $107.xx and shipping came at 'Starting at $32' to WA.

Well quite expensive in my book considering that you can ship to NSW, VIC and QLD for free when spending over $99!

this killed the deal for me :(

Isn't there a better shipping company to WA? Can't believe that you can absorb the cost of shipping to VIC and charge $32 to WA.

            • @mikef: Hey Mikef! We do realise that shipping is quite high for certain areas unfortunately. The problem is that we ship through Australia Post, and each downlight is quite bulky, even though it's not very heavy, making the volume side of the calculation be quite expensive :(. We are looking into better shipping options for when things need to go cross country, but as a quick solution, we just worked out how much it would take to ship certain amounts of downlights to WA. If you want to though, you can organise your own shipping, and we're more than happy to package it up and have it ready for a courier for you :). If you'd like to contact us, please email us at [email protected] and we can help you out more with it :)

My downlights busted earlier this year and it was just the transformer that pooped so had them replaced.

I assume these don't come with the transformers?

    • +1

Hi mrshorty. These downlights are the newer technology that have a plug on the end of them - just like a table lamp! When the electrician comes out the first time to install these, he'll put a socket in the ceiling and plug these in - the good thing is that when they go (if it's outside of the 3 year warranty), all you've got to do is get new ones, unplug the old ones and plug the new ones back in, and you don't even need an electrician! The good thing is that when you get these, it's inclusive of everything you need - the light, in built transformer and plug - all ready to go, which makes changing them down the line much easier :)

    No shipping to Perth?

    • +1

Hi StiSupafly! We're getting a lot of people from Perth who are looking for shipping - unfortunately we didn't have a plan originally to ship these guys to Perth, but we're going to have a look at some better options and get something organised! In the meantime though, please send us an email at [email protected] and with your address and how many you're after, and we can work out a shipping rate for you :)

    Hey Op,
Would you have anything that can recess b22 bulbs?
Have a bunch of phillips hue bulbs in b22.

    • Hi Gawky. Unfortunately we don't have anything that can recess B22 bulbs - I don't think you'll have too much luck with them unfortunately :(. That said, we've got a ton of new smart bulbs that you can get in E27 - it's not an ideal solution, but it's an option at least if you can find any of the E27 recessed downlight fittings. Though, another option could be smart downlights that are the same technology as the ones we posted - again, not ideal with all the Phillips Hue bulbs you have at the moment, but could be the best option long term. Good luck on your search!

If I mention this deal.in store on the weekend can it be available?

    • Hi kcbworth! It will absolutely be available in store! Just mention that you're after the downlights from the OzBargain deal, and we'll be able to help you out! I'll let the guys at work know to keep an eye out for when you come in :). The other option is to buy it online and pick it up in store on the weekend, whichever is easier for you - either way, see you this weekend!

      • +1

Thanks rep. Just pulled out an existing downlight and turns out I have basic gu10 afterall so can simply replace with LED globes

        • No worries kcbworth! We do have a range of GU10 bulbs as well if you need some, but if you've got some that's all good then :)

          • +1

@BDLT: Not yet. Anything you'd recommend that provides a similar outcome to these?

            • @isthisreallife22: It depends how much light you want out of them. We've got some LED ones that give off about as much light as the old style 50W halogen bulbs, and some LED ones that are even brighter, but also a bit more expensive. Best thing is to email us at [email protected] with what colour option you want (if you don't want to stick to the warm white), how many you're after and what wattage you have at the moment and we can work out the best options for you :)

  • +1

@BDLT do you have any with a 70mm cutout. Looking to replace halogens and the existing hold is 78mm diameter.

    • Hi CloudBargains! Unfortunately in this style with the flex 'n' plug and this look, we don't have any that we can get in a 70mm cutout :(. That said, most people end up just making their hole a little bit bigger, or changing the halogen bulbs to LED - if you need a bit more info on what to look for when changing the bulbs, send us an email at [email protected] and we can run you through them :)

  • +1

@BDLT - I'm looking to install the 1000lm version throughout the house. Are you able to assist me with finding how many I'll actually need? I can shoot through floor plan of the house if that's easier. It's a 30sq single story (4br+1 Study house; ~4sq is the garage). At a guess, I'm thinking somewhere between 30-40 lights, but without any experience with the light output / coverage I'm really just guessing.

    • +1

Hi Jigna! We don't usually go through floor plans, as we don't officially state how many downlights and whatnot you need. That said, we have had a lot of experience with lighting and downlights, so we have some very good ideas! For these sort of downlights, because of the massive 120 degree spread on them, you'd expect to put put them about 1.8-2m apart to reduce shadowing - you can always go closer together and just have a brighter room, but any further out and it could get a bit iffy. Generally people will put the downlights in rows about 1.8-2m apart and centre it in the ceiling, so for a 4x4m room, you'd have the downlights 2m apart and 1m in from each wall (again, as a guide, as some people like most light in certain rooms :P). For a standard bedroom, depending on the other types of lights you'll have, 4 in each corner should do the trick, but we've seen people who have wall lights or table lamps etc get away with only 2, and in small bathrooms/toilets, 1 can even do the job. If you've got any other questions about them, feel free to shoot us an email at [email protected] and we'll see what we can do to help :)

      • Awesome. Thanks I'll check out the floor plan and figure out light spread based on your guide

        • No worries Jigna! If you have any other questions, just email us and let us know!
