Will OLED TVs Drop in Price Soon? Thoughts?

Been looking at getting a new TV lately, the maximum I would be willing to spend around $1400 so I'm leaning towards the Hisense 65P7. However, I'm worried I will buy a new TV now to find the OLED is going to significantly drop in price within 12 months. Just wondering what other peoples outlook on this is? Would I be better off snapping up a cheaper TV now and saving a bit of money for when OLED is more affordable?

Just curious on peoples thoughts. Cheers!

The 2019 LG OLED models have significant improvements over previous models that you should wait for if possible: 120Hz, HDMI 2.1 VRR and Freesync.

    • Yet, that doesn't say anything about the User Interface, the Smart features, the Sound Quality, and the Picture Quality.

I think the whole world is waiting for SLED - Synthetic (or non-organic) LED to come out.
In particular to increase its lifespan/decrease burn-in, increase brightness, increase dynamic range, increase response times.

      • I thought everyone was waiting for MicroLED. On par with OLEDs but without the burn-in.

You won't get a 65" OLED anytime soon

    • What do you mean wont get a 65" OLED anytime soon?

      • He wants it $1400 :/

Oh i see, Yeah will be waiting a lil while

  • I'd wait until EOFY sales before making a call. The Hisense OLED (55 inch?) dropped to $1300 on a recent sale, so they're creeping down.

I'd also consider exactly how determined you are on a 65 inch set. A previous year 65 inch TV will be in the same ballpark (if not more expensive than) a 55 inch model from the current year. Depending on the differences, you may get far more for your money on opting for the smaller, newer model than just going for 'bigger is better'.

iirc a comment here mentioned a possibility of 4K reducing in availability as 8K become the norm. This would come with higher prices.

You could also consider using a credit card with 12 months price protection.

You can either buy what you want now during one of the sales for the best possible price or wait and continue to wait forever. Technology prices will keep dropping and then new items will get released and you'll wait again for the prices to drop. It's a never ending cycle.

You're not the only one who feels shit seeing price drops after purchase, but you're forgetting that you've had the use of that product during the time.

  • I hope so

I'm holding out for a 75 inch OLED for a decent price

Like everything else the price is always high to begin with so they can screw over the early adapters

The prices I payed for some of my compter parts years ago :(

  • TV prices are crazy cheap. No other consumer electronic has dropped in value as TVs have despite increase in tech (OLED, 4K, HDR)

In 2008 you could buy a top of the line 55" HD LCD for ~$4000
Now you can get a 55" OLED for $1499 which is significantly better than that 2008 panel.

They are dirt cheap and tbf I can't see many more manufacturers hanging around. There is such slim margins to be made on TVs, I know of two manufacturers who are selling a few of their current TVs for a loss due to customers wanting more discounts

If this is the path it keeps going then Samsung / LG will be only ones remaining and then price will increase again to maintain the monopoly / duopoly.

Just buy a tv. Your getting a much better deal than ever before

Hell TVs are cheaper at launch now than 12 months ago.
