½ Price Red Island Cold Pressed Olive Oil Extra Virgin 500ml $4.25 (Was $8.50) @ Woolworths

870

Nuff said, popular deal is back again.
1L when discounted (which is not the case at the moment) is slightly cheaper, but 0.5L bottle is easier to deal with :)

  • does this has popup spout?

    • Sort of, but I saw better/proper spouts, so I would say no. It's there but not popping out :)

    • It doesn't.
I buy the big tins of oil so have a wine bottle with a spirit pourer which I think is easier to use and pours better than the ones which come on oil bottles.

I find Cobram Valley EVOO much nicer than this one.

how does this compare with Cobram Estate ?

    • +1

Cobram Estate is considered as a higher grade I believe. Same company though. I like Red Island :)

Yeah better quality olives are used for the Cobram oil

        • Does that extend to healthier too by being better quality??

          • @SaberX: Cobram 8s much better. Probably more healthy as it tastes fresher and 'robust' is very spicy - meaning it has more of the good stuff in it.

            • @[Deactivated]: yes, i only buy the Cobram "Robust Flavour" ( it's the bottle, with the 3 x olive rating :-) )

Red Island and Cobram Estate are both owned by the same company.

    • FYI Cobram is their premium oil, but that doesn't mean this oil is bad quality.

      • By premium doesnt that mean the method is healthier or better? Even the olives used??or is it more a taste thing?

        • Maybe fresher, or higher purity, premium certainly should mean costing more to produce, but who knows, it could be just branding. Personally I like Cobram, the oil always smells fresh. You don't want rancid oil, that's the most important thing.

Some olive oil expert rated Red Island as basically trash and Cobram as extremely good. I'm incline to agree as once as kids we harvested our olive tree and had them the olives pressed, the scent was the same as Cobram (mix of apple juice and olives and very pungent). As for Italian and Spanish olive oil that is mostly rancid and run by the Mafia. So im happy to support Cobram as an Australia product with Australian regulations and great smell and taste. Just my 2c
