National Press Club - Josh Frydenberg

Watching his post budget speech at the National Press Club. Doesn't come across as being much of a speaker. Seems to lose his place on the script and fumbles his delivery quite often. Just hope he can add up properly.

  • I think he uses Enron mark to market accounting standards for that temporary surplus.

I hope that Steven Hawking guy knows what he's on about, he can barely manage three words a minute.

But seriously, what is the point in watching a politician being asked questions by some stenographers pretending to be jouirnalists who wildly over rate their own importance?

I'll give you a hint as to what makes a good journalist: they don't sit down and have lunch with the people they're reporting on.

    • "he can barely manage three words a minute."

Is that to spiritual medium John Edwards?

    • The ultimate is George Bush making jokes about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction while "journalists" laugh and applaud.

    • Good point about so-called journalists.
There are very few that could qualify to call themselves that.

I like politicians who can't speak or has no speech filter.

The worry are the ones with charm.

I think that applies to George W Bush vs Obama. They both lie but you could tell when W was.

      • Obama was good at the charm offensive. Amazing in fact. I mean, he got away with calling their healthcare reform "Obamacare".

        Imagine any Republican doing that.

        BushCare.

        TrumpCare.

        • I think you'll find it is actually called the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Obamacare is a nickname.

@AnthRS4: I know I know but it is referred to by Obama and his government as ObamaCare.

The name exists. Not a formal name but it's not my imagination they Obama referred to the act as ObamaCare.

              @[Deactivated]:

The term "Obamacare" was originally coined by opponents as a pejorative. The term emerged in March 2007 when healthcare lobbyist Jeanne Schulte Scott used it in a health industry journal

By mid-2012, Obamacare had become the colloquial term used by both supporters and opponents.

Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act

              • @Baysew: That I did not know and is quite interesting.

As I said, that man is a smooth operator, he can turn that frown upside down.

          Reganomics!

          • @[Deactivated]: Not quite the same. Reaganomics is more economic theory than policy, although it did have very direct influence on the policies of his (Reagan, obviously, just in case) government.

He too was smooth. In fact, he was Hollywood smooth.

        • Romneycare?

          • @follow: No RomneyCare.

            CortezCare.
