Swapping a GTX 1080 for GTX 1080ti with Cash

I'm thinking of upgrading my 1080 to 1080Ti or 2080, does anyone know what price range should I expect for a 1080Ti now and how much can I get for selling the 1080?

rtx 2080 hits sub-$900 for new

used 1080Ti still selling over $800+ , as sellers are in denial

rtx 2060 is just tiny bit behind 1080, and it's hitting $470 mark for new

    you get the idea

    • So conclusion is I should probably wait out more till sellers actually want to face reality. At that kind of prices I'd rather go for a new RTX2080

      • That's exactly it, 1080ti now isn't worth it.

    • Yeah, I made 26 bucks on a GTX 1080 Ti -> RTX 2080 upgrade after fees and ship.

According to user.benchmark a few weeks ago people saw the GTX 1080 Ti as 50% better value than the 2080 even though it's 0-10% slower without RTX etc. Kinda wacky :p

      • Thing is, with eBay offering 10% off for pretty much all of March, $900 GTX 1080 Tis were actually $810. If you resell on the weekends for $1 final value fees for $900 and ship it out for $25, you'd still be making money even after the PP fees.

  • if you can find a decently price 1080 ti that would be a worthy upgrade. I've been seeing them on eBay for around 800-850, with 10% coupons that brings it within a reasonable range. I got one up with 2 years warranty left for $750, preferably find something that wasn't used for mining (usually pretty obvious if they're selling multiple of the same card).

Also could wait for 2080 price to drop, that might also affect used 1080 ti prices as they're pretty much viewed as equivalent.

    • If you're buying used/don't care for warranty, then mining does not matter.

You could get the card. Unscrew it and open it up. Use alcohol to clean the inside of the electronics. Replace the mediocre TIM with a high-grade thermal paste. Replace the fans for cheap. Put it back together. Update the drivers. And now, its working as good/better than when it was new.

LinusTechTips did a comparison with a GTX 480 that was unopened Versus a GTX 480 (exact same variant) that was mining 24/7 for many years. They came to the same conclusion. Performance doesn't degrade over time, like say, your good quality HDMI cables you used for many years, in contrast to something like your Analogue (RWY) cables did for your Cassette/CD/DVD Player.

  • MSY has a Galax RTX 2080 for $889. Not an A-binned chip but it is still a decent card. Just sell your 1080 for $600 on eBay on weekends.
