Any Toyota Sales People here? Looking to buy Prado

I am in the market for new Prado VX or Kakdu.
So far negotiated Kakadu for $81000 drive away.
I am having hard time finding good deal for VX.
For some reason VX tend to cost the same or more even thou it should be 10k less than the Kakadu.

Could any suggest a good dealer or even sales person in Sydney.

Thanks

This can be spackbace's 15 minutes of fame.

  • OP any reason why you want a Prado? Great reliability if you're going out bush, but very old design and tech. Very weak engines.

    • We currently have a Lexus RX and need a bit more space hence looking at Prado
I took Prado for a drive and it goes alright.
Its pretty efficient to run, reliable, has 7 seats.
luxury is on par if not more than the current RX
awesome off road capability not that would we use it much but you never know.

in the end of the day we are not looking for a race car but rather economical and reliable 7 seater.
engine has 130KW and 450NM, it can tow 3 Tons

      • You’re looking at the wrong car if you’re not going to use the off-road ability, you’re just carrying around extra weight. A Volvo XC90 would be a much better choice. So would an X5, or Q7. The Prado is pretty outdated as a car if you’re not pursuing off-road ability and reliability. And it’s definately not economical compared to floor pan SUVs. There is also a 7 seat version of the RX Lexus now, which would be more suited to your needs. 130kw is an extremely weak engine for a car as heavy as a Prado.

You are looking purely from specification prospective, reliability and ownership speaks other wise.

Prado VX one below the top of the range kakdu cost approx 70k drive away, you cant buy anything you mentioned even close to it.
BMW, Volvo and even Audi are just not as reliable as Toyota / Lexus even thou they cost a ton more - Google Car reliability - Toyota tops this every single year and no one comes close.
Resell value on Prado is one of the best in the segment - it will cost more than what i own on the balloon payment after 5 years.
Its one of the best selling 4WD in the world and there is a reason for it.
The demand for this car is really high, they sell 15000 per year and this year is deemed to be even higher.

We looked at 7 Seat RX, it looks ugly due to extended body to fit 3rd raw, you cant seat an adult there where is in a prado you can.

We will have it for 5 years and move on to something else but for now it looks like the best car from all aspects that meets our needs and budget.

          • @NoOn3: The reason why Toyota’s are reliable is that they don’t change the cars for 20 years. It’s just ancient tech compared to the competition. You can get a Volvo XC90 for not much more, list price here for a loaded one is $85k, you’d be able to pick it up for under $80k.

            https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/2018-Volvo-XC90-D5-…

No issues with reliability, much more power and torque, smaller, more fuel efficient engine, much safer, better tech, great resale. More space in the last row and a more luxurious interior. A better car for you.

            • @[Deactivated]: Appreciate your trying to help and i am sorry to say but Volvo is one of the least reliable cars you can buy hence the ability to negotiate good deals.
The dealer network is also poor
Quick look at google clearly indicates the most reliable car brands in world are mostly asian brands.

How does a $80000 compare to $70000, thats $10k difference and is no where near similar cost.

The resell value of Prado is going to substantially higher than volvo or any other car you listed here.

@NoOn3: Ok, you seem set on the Toyota, so there’s no point in changing your mind, but by buying one, you’re not getting the best car for your needs.

                • @[Deactivated]: Thanks for your recommendations, i am personally not a fan of 4wd, this is purely for my wife and its her choice.
Shes happy with this car and its reliability, thats all i really care about.
I got a sports car as my daily driver.

Not to be rude, i haven't asked for any opinion about car choices.
All i was looking for is a good deal or dealer that can assist with best price.

@NoOn3: Just make sure it's not being purely used for short drives. It'll need a run of 20mins or so @ 60kph or more, every 350-500km to clean out the DPF.

And for the record, BT is right, the car isn't the best choice for city driving and you should really only opt for it if you do plan on using it for country drives, and/or to go off-road. If it's about city driving, I'd be recommending a Kluger over a Prado, or any similar petrol SUV. More comfortable, more 'car-like', smoother & quieter. (and that's without checking other manufacturers out).

        • A Volvo XC90 would be a much better choice. So would an X5, or Q7.

          April fools? LOL.

        • 130kw is an extremely weak engine for a car as heavy as a Prado.

Diesel is all about torque, not power.

          • @PinzVidz:

450Nm is an extremely weak engine for a car as heavy as a Prado.

            How's that?

And power is just a factor of torque x RPM / constant.

          • @PinzVidz: That’s great. Except it’s not a huge amount of torque and 130kw in this day and age is a tiny amount of power. The car will be very slow.

            • @[Deactivated]:

              will be

Spoken by someone who hasn't driven it and is giving an opinion formed by nothing but a gut feel.

              • @spackbace: Or facts and figures. But let’s just ignore that.

              • @spackbace: I test drove it the other day and while its nowhere near my scirocco r, i understand its a diesel and is not designed to be a sports car.

You can certainly feel the torque especially going up hill.

            • @[Deactivated]:

The car will be very slow.

That's ok for Sydney driving seeing that our average speed is ~25km/h to and from work.

    • Great reliability
      Very weak engines.

      Wait what

      • Why do you've an Employee tag?

        • +4

I can't answer that without being really sarcastic.

      • Yes, weak engine. 130kw is VW Golf power (and not even GTI) in a 2.5 tonne ladder frame 4wd. Weak as piss.

        • Thats not a deal breaker if it lasts me 5 years with out any trouble and resells for good value
