If you've been using a capacitive touchscreen going back to resistive will be like going back to dial up internet.

        • If you're a dial up internet, people will compare you to going from a capacitive touchscreen back to resistive

If you have been touching your screen, you will have the capacity to resist dialing up the Internet.

resistive touchscreens have improved allot over the years so its not as bad your making it out to be, but yes they are not as good if thats your point!

    Cnet commends-
LG has cut corners in the wrong places to deliver the Optimus at the right price. Poor performance and frustrating input are always deal-breakers, regardless of price.

nothing wrong with resistive screens, esp at this price point

  • This is a much better Android phone for the same price..

YEP looks good but Vodafone >>>>>>>>> NO Thank you!

You can get them unlocked for $20 apparently.

Not necessarily, the higher resolution 320x480 screen on the Optimus means better app support. And resistive screens aren't as bad as people make them out to be, it's the UI that's more important.

I'm using this phone but in terms of style LG wins. The Huawei doesn't even come with a black back cover despite the phone itself being black (and entirely made of plastic) :( Only blue/yellow/pink

Tbh I think I'd rather have better looks even though its using an inferior Android version :P

    • no way is the ideos better - the gt540 has a better resolution (more than half the apps available on the market won't work on it) and the gt540 has dozens of custom roms so that it can be updated to the latest 2.3.4

yes the ideos has a capacitive but the gt540 resistive is pretty darn decent in terms of performance, albeit without multi-touch

  • its end of life and thats probably why its been marked down…

  • even the top end phones eventually go into the prepaid price range, the Optimus one has been out a while now anyway

    By the way…

If you've been using a capacitive touchscreen going back to resistive will be like going back to dial up internet.

  • I'm a bit noob, but is this unlocked or has to get a prepaid from Optus?

    • +1

      Prepaids are usually locked.
Contract bundle phones are usually unlocked (you are bound by the contract so no need to lock phone.)
There are the odd exception to this so check with the telco to be 100% sure.
Unlocking is not such a hassle now a days with most phones… :-)

      • okay, thanks :)

  • If…you've…been…using…a…capacitive…touchscreen…going…back…to…resistive…will…be…like…going…back…to…dial…up…internet…[simulating dialup d/l!]

  • My first foray into an internet enabled phone was the GT540 a few months ago. Very happy with it, particularly cost wise. I find the resistive screen fine, but of course when I head over to a HTC or Iphone I will wonder why I didn't do it sooner. From a features perspective, this gives me the mobility I need at the moment, Android 2.1 with phone/text/gmail/Facebook/internet etc.

  • this is a good phone for $99 and you soon get used to the screen.

  • What's that about capacitive touchscreens and dial up internet?

  • Was thinking of getting one of these for my wife. She currently has a TPG sim do you think this phone will be network locked or carrier locked or whatever. Just wondering if the TPG/soul sim will work int he optus locked phone I guess. Wouldn't the locking be bascially overwritten if I update it to Android 2.1 anyways?

  • Anyways, i picked up one of these for the wife, and for the money im pretty impressed. I could easily drop back for my 3gs iphone to this. The screen is a bit clunky but the os makes it work pretty well. The call quality pisses all over my 3gs. The soul sim card worked straight away with the phone and I updated the phone to 2.1 straight up. So if you have a $99 phone budget, i'd go for it.
