Oh damn combine it with the $20 cb offer at cashrewards…spicy

U1 though. Do they make 400GB in U3 yet?

    • +1

Well. considering U3 is meant to be 30MB/s minimum…
      https://www.gsmarena.com/sandisk_ultra_400gb_microsd_review-…

I think what's happened is Sandisk was unable to make a slow 400GB card, but they didn't want to miss out on enthusiasts paying the higher price for U3, so they kept it U1. 90MB/s read and 60MB/s write!

I have bought one before and yeah, the speed is good. I think if you compared a 128gb U3 card vs this 400GB U1 card, this card would win.

      • you confusing me…

        is u1 or u3 faster?

why you say U1. 90MB/s read and 60MB/s write!

is Samsung 256GB Evo Plus faster than this?

        • +4

What they're saying is, even though this card is sold as "U1" spec - it actually performs to "U3" spec.

Their hypothesis is that they didn't want to label this as a "U3" model to encourage pros to pay specifically for the more expensive version.

          • @fatal: ah thanks for explanation

so there is a pro model that would run similar speed to this u1
but they marketed as pro so the enthusiast can pay more for it..

But if those enthusiasts are smart can't they just google and know that this is same as a pro spec etc
            and just buy this etc?

BTW is the 512 samsung evo as fast or faster than this 400GB?

Personally I like to go for the 256 or 512 etc since they are double the data each time etc..
But right now the 512 still expensive..

            • @pinkybrain: I like to think of it as a guarantee.

This "U1" can be any speed as long as it meets the "U1" minimum spec. There is no guarantee for anything faster.
A pro or enthusiast would be paying for the certainty of the minimum speed + the better warranty and relability of the "Pro" models.

Here is a H2testw result that I ran on this card from the JoyBuy deal a while ago:

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/417239#comment-6728302

          • @prxy: H2testw is to verify capacity. It's not suitable for speed tests; the speed it shows is usually a good deal lower than the media can run at.

            • @elusive: H2testw does verify capacity but also gives speed over a sustained sequential write and read in this case over the entirety of the card.

This is a suitable measure for common tasks such as media consumption or photography which have been asked many times here.

If you need to test for random read/write speeds such as is common for app usage then H2testw is not a suitable measure. A more dedicated speed testing program such as crystal disk mark is required.

              • @prxy: The last time I used H2testw, its sequential speeds were significantly lower than other benchmarking tools (and even a plain old file copy).

It tells you the speed of its verification, not the speed of the media.

                • @elusive: I have not found this in my own use. In my experience it has been one of the most reliable speed/capacity testing programs.

The checksum following the data reads/writes is negligible to non existent when comparing such "slow" media as SD cards.

          • @prxy: can you run a crystal disk mark test (64bit)
            and post the result?

        • why you say U1. 90MB/s read and 60MB/s write!

is Samsung 256GB Evo Plus faster than this?

The Samsung reads at up to 100MB/s and writes at up to 90MB/s.

          The Samsung is faster.

  • same price at Amazon US without prime.

It cost more on Amazon US, once you factor in Delivery and Tax/GST.

    • Oh yeah, my bad. Thought the GST was included already. Removed the Amazon US link.

  • will this work for sony camcorders (400gb u1 sandisk) ?

    • +1

Read your manual as it wildly varies from device to device.

  • +1

The 256card is the same price lol 😁

  • Not sure about switch compatibility (in general). My switch thinks my 128gb is 1.28mb
Def something strange going on. Card works fine elsewhere. Bought 5 pack from amazon.

  • Would this be ok in my samsung s10? Thanks

    • +1

Yes but only up to 1080p video

      • Hi there, is there any reason why its only good for 1080hd video in the latest samsung s10? I haven't heard of this restriction in any of the reviews floating around. Ty for the info mate.

        • +1

Write speed not fast enough on these. You can record onto the phone and store on the card but not directly onto card. Sd card has to be U3 for 4k.

          • @Stratman15: Thanks for the clarification on that, alas per Samsung website for the evo card 100mb/s should be good enough for 4k so I thought maybe this would be. Either way good card and nice price. Maybe I was alittle confused lol.

        • +3

Should be fine as many have said before even though marked as U1 has U3 performance.

Here is a H2testw result of this card that I'm using:

    A pack of 12?

  • Would this be suitable for high end photography? or am i better off waiting for a sale on u3?

    • Define "high-end" photography.

For me high end photography would be 5D Mark IV/1DX Mark II or the Nikon equivalent or better. In which case you would be using CF/UHS-II SD/CFast/XQD cards or SSDs for the high end video cameras.

  • Would my 2015 Dell XPS 13 be compatible with this?

    • +1

Yes (with the SD adapter) but the card reader in those laptops seems to top out around 30M/s so YMMV.

      • That’s great news, as I’m currently using a 128 MB microSD with it. I thought there was a capacity limitation on the card reader. Speed is less of an issue for me than the storage size.

  • 400GB on a micro sd, wow wow.
This tech has come such a long way

    • This got nothing on the Samsung 512 GB micro sd card.

      • +1

Sandisk already have a 1tb micro SD..

  • Can it work on Rx100V?

    • Probably not if you cant do 4K on a Samsung S10.
Here is a link for recommended SD cards.

  • offer still appears to be live and not expired.

  • Anyone have recommendations for a micro SD adapter to sit flush with MacBook pro? I saw a few on eBay, but only supported up to 256GB
