Using WAP on Older Phone

I used wap prob like 20 years ago, today I went Found myn Nokia phone and I’m using my Optus sim just to do a speed test and some programs etc, since My Optus billing has a lot of data lets say unlimited. how much data does wap consum, assuming its interface and games etc shouldn’t be more than a few hundred kilobytes?internet bandwidth is calculated from your 4g data how is this converted?Remember games were only around 50-300kb.

  • Is WAP even supported anymore?

    • I thought it was a 2g thing and thus the old phone would no longer work.

      • it can’t load normal pages up, but Optus zoo still comes up and that is using wap.

        • most mobile sites nowadays are just based on xHTML now, meaning that if the site doesn't support WML (which is really quite outdated and few sites still do) your Nokia won't know how to handle the page.

  • Yes! I’m just not sure if wap is looked upon the same way as data 4g usage, I don’t want some wooping fee to surprise me!

    • +1

It is highly probable that your phone will not work on mobile data anymore. 20 years ago the dominant tech was 2G, and now it is history.

Data consumption, regardless of the band (2G/3G/4G) should count as the same, there is no conversion needed.

  • One good website for old phones is waptrick.com
Has a lot of games, wallpapers etc. and is design for old-style dumbphones.

  • WAP is similar to dialup internet and quite works like a voice call.
But both WAP & GPRS/EDGE can't be used now as there is no 2G network in service anymore :O
What is your phone exactly? May be it is optus branded one with hardcoded welcome page?

  • This phone isn’t my 8230, or 6230, is actually pretty recent think 5 Years, it uses wap since it loads those pages up, but it says 3G on my phone. I am think it uses wap and normal 3G internet? It’s nokia TA-1036. The preloaded games it has are definitely only downloaded via wap, as it doesn’t have installation of any kind of app stores from these days.
