Is OzBargain The Ultimate Tool from Cooperates and Government???

First of all, I am an Ozbargain addict. Pretty much surfing Ozbargain every time I on a web browser.
Learnt this video (The story of stuff) today from my class, then got me thinking about how we Oz-bargainer keeps come up here and check out for deals. Are we the victims of what they say in the video?

Anyway, no pun intended, just a random train of thoughts as I was really interested in that video and starting to judge my self to do better.

I think maybe a "Cooperate" is a corporation that you co-operate with?

    That video changed my life.

  • That opening music…

    • It seems familiar but i can't put my finger on it.

      • Maybe if your tried "in it" instead…

  • I figure our current reliance of raw materials has led us to the point where we're seriously looking at "cradle to cradle" design for products, which can only be a good thing.
    See, we're helping ;)

I'm going to go ahead and blame Marie Kondo for all of this.

The video is correct in that we externalise a lot of environmental costs, especially to poorer countries. And many products we buy generally do not reflect the true cost to society. Conscious-consuming is definitely the way to go, a “waste not want not” mentality will help to reduce our footprint on this fragile earth.

But we still need some consumable goods, products and services. And OzBargain enables us to get these at cheaper prices. As to whether Ozbargain with its abundant deals will lead to over-consumption, this is down to the self-discipline of individuals.

BTW if interested in seeing how our consumer attitudes affect other countries (esp third-world), I find Simon Reeve’s travel documentaries to be really informative – instead of just showing great sights, his travels also delved into the impact of this on the people of the regions visitied.
