Damn, I paid $5 for this a few months ago.

    • +19

That's a day of work experience.

  • +2

I can't believe it was 25 years ago that this came out, it feels like yesterday. Is it amazing how time flies. Thanks for the link, code registered fine, I will be sure to download and hopefully it is as good as I remember it being.

    • +6

thinking of this I feel old.. i remember the 90s like it was yesterday. Good times. Where has the time gone…? le sigh.

      • +2

        lol you have kids?

      • +4

(profanity). The 90s were 20 some odd years ago.

        I'm sad now.

      • +12

You are not old unless you played Leisure Suite Larry I. So much pleasure yet it was 320x240 in 4 colors. Took me 3 months to get past a scene. My mate called me at 3am to tell me that he worked out how to get past it. The little blue pixel under the tree was a coconut.. :) sigh so old, feeling so sad…

        • +7

Everything I know about women comes from that game. I can't work out why I'm not more successful.

        • +1

I have carried the toilet paper stuck to his shoe image ever since.

          • +5

@Major Mess: And the extra small, ribbed, peppermint flavoured "lubber" you had to buy 😂

      2002
Almost gave me a heart attack, thinking jeez I can't be that old!

      • right?
i remember playing this in college but i don't remember being that old

        • Same here.. I was like no way I was that young playing it. Wouldn't Daggerfall be closer to 25?

        • +1

          Played Wizardry II at uni..

          • +1

            @Magus: ow
sir your wheelchair just ran over my foot

    • +11

First elder scrolls = 25 years. This is the third…

      • Lamenting that 25 years has gone by since something happened and feeling old is a joke on the internet. It's not to be taken seriously.

        • For sure, but there's a big difference between 25 and 17

          • @WhyAmICommenting: No I mean pretending something is 25 years old is the joke. Like damn I can't believe it's been 25 years since Trump was elected, I feel so old.

    • +2

The Elder Scrolls: Arena, the first elder scrolls game, came out in 1994.

  • I haven't played any elder scrolls series in the last 10 years.

    • +6

Give them a go. Oblivion and Skyrim are great.

      • +5

I think Morrowind is better than both of them

        • +7

I think both of them are better than morrowind :)

          • -5

@Ostrk: I guess you place more importance on graphics than story or game play, which is fine

            • +3

@Quantumcat: I think the story in all 3 is pretty similar in complexity, vibe and strength.
The gameplay itself in morrowind is considerably less user friendly (and just harder in general), but maybe that is your jam.
TBH my personal favorite storyline out of all 3 of those games is the oblivion expansion - the shivering isles.

              • +1

@RI4V4N: Yeah I really enjoyed the Shivering Isles too

            • +4

@Quantumcat: I put gameplay above all. And I think morrowind lacked the most by far in that regard.

          • +1

@Ostrk: You sir are obviously on drugs

            • +5

@Seedy seed: Am I though? nostalgia is a drug in my eyes & I think most gamers are completely addicted to it.

              • +4

@Ostrk: There are some things it could learn from later games in the series, but there are things it did better. E.g. I loved the more detailed levelling and class system (it got dumbed down more and more in Oblivion and Skyrim), levitating, and all the houses, so many more quests, getting directions where you had to think about where you were going rather than blindly following a quest marker. Some things it could learn from O&S - not missing dagger strikes when you're 5 cm in front of your target, horses, picking ingredients without having to open the inventory of the plant.

                • +1

@Quantumcat: Agree with Quantumcat, Oblivion and Skyrim are a lot more playable but Morrowind was golden for it's time. The level of complexity was a blessing and a curse, there was so much content but there was too much to be rigorously tested - I played the release version and it was a crash machine.

Combat better in the later games, but leveling and reward better in Morrowind.

I liked levitation but I am glad they removed it, there was plenty of things that you could break with the game with it.

                  • +1

                    @pdtmathieson:

I liked levitation but I am glad they removed it

I loved sky-diving! Levitate up so far the ground is misty, turn and face the ground, turn off levitating….

                    • +1

@Quantumcat: That would still give me anxiety - plus, I was running on such a rotten machine the draw distance was about a metre, so the ground didn't render until it was too late!

                      • @pdtmathieson: Draw distance on the original Xbox was not great either.

                  • @pdtmathieson: Jump 100 points for 1 second on self
Fortify Acrobatics 100 points for 1 second on self

… and that's fast travel sorted.

      • Oblivion released over 12 years ago. So been there done that.

I believe that Morrowind had the permanent buff bug which made the game fun to mess around with.

  • thanks

  • +3

I made an account but it is rejecting my username/password combo. Reset the password and it is rejecting the new password that was entered just 5 seconds ago. What is going on?

I have now tried Facebook login and it is having the same problem. Facebook login wants to link to a (new) Bethesda username/password and it is rejecting that as well.

Tried different browsers: Chrome, Firefox, even Internet Explorer 11.

Great, Bethesda servers died just as I was making my accounts
âš  We're currently investigating issues with BethesdaNet Services. Thank you for your patience. StatusPage: https://bethesda.net/status

Some users reported that after log in, code redemption is dead.

  • Oblivion was my first TES game but I only heard good things about Morrowind

    • +1

Bro. It is crazy good. Its like the New Vegas of the fallout series. The game mechanics might not be as polished, but the amount of care and detail that went into it.. Its the only elder scrolls game I've played where I maxed out a characters stats. 100 on everything

  • +3

cant seem to log on =/

  • +5

Same for me, I cannot login after I created an account and reset password 3 times. There website is as buggy as there games…

    • +1

I think the site may be getting ozbargained.

  • +1

For anyone interested in buying any of the later games, an Elder Scrolls 'sale' on steam has just started. Prices for the games are standard (what they always are on these 'sales') Bethesda also has this 'sale' but the prices are the same and steam>>>>bethesda launcher.

  • I redeemed the code fine after logging in.

    Used mobile chrome.

    Going to sleep now.

    • Good night

  • ES - the WoW 'killer'. lololol

    • +2

      Activision - the WoW killer

      • Destiny 2 -the WoW killer.

  • +3

Lol. Same issue. Can’t log in. Reset password, still nothing. Made a new account, still nothing. Bethesda must be getting hammered

    • +2

      logged in. code invalid. damn

  • +3

Had trouble logging in, now finally in and code invalid.

    • +3

Yeah I thought I was good after trying for half an hour to login, only to find the code is now invalid :(

  • +6

    Not working

  • +3

    Not working

  • +2

Invalid code. Please check the code and try entering it again. If you are attempting to redeem an ESO code please go to https://elderscrolls.bethesda.net

    • +5

Getting the same invalid code message.

I guess it wouldn't true to Bethesda if there wasn't a few bugs.

  • I recommend installing this mod as with the Expansions you'll get killed quite frequently early on by assassin's.

Or if you want to live dangerously…

    • Wow worst advice… Have afew health potions the first time you sleep after installing the first expansion, the armor off the assasin is some of the best early light armor in the game… i kill him at level 1…

      • +1

I did say if you want to live dangerously. Or don't want to play on easy difficulty 😋

        • Lol you get the armor, then head to the smugglers den behind the stilt strider. Once you kill and loot that walk till a guy falls out the sky lol.

Alchemy is also the best money at start rofl

    • Is that like when I bought the Skyrim DLC and was immediately attacked by a couple of groups?

      • Yeah pretty much. People new to the game or low levelled may have trouble

  • +3

The code does not work for me. Something must be down

  • +2

Code also not working for me :(

  • +2

    Also not working for me.

Since its a 24 hour promo I submitted a ticket. Their submit a ticket interface is also stuffed. I had to change the file name on my attachment so it wouldn't be rejected even though it was valid according to their rules. Clearly their "Store" is not ready for prime time.

Not an Epic fail. A Bethesda fail.

  • When Steam are selling it for $10.00 and the makers/owners of the game, giving it for free.. (yes i know GotY)

Just tried it again, It's now working. Use the same tab with the error up all I did was hit Redeem again. Weird.

      • +1

Thanks! I was getting the same error 6 hours ago but I just tried redeemimg it again after reading your comment and it worked.

  • +1

    Code not working for me.

  • +3

there's a lot complaining on twitter too lol
    https://twitter.com/BethesdaSupport/status/11102761036823797…

  • I tried to go back and play Oblivion recently and found it too clunky compared to Skyrim, can't imagine going back to Morrowind even though it is the game I have invested the most time in ever. Hopefully it gets a remaster some day.

    • The story is leagues better than oblivion or skyrim, I recommend giving it another go.

      • Absolutely true, but it's a story I played through 10 times and still know back to front. Revisiting a game I am that familiar with I would need to be engaged with the gameplay, which this isn't going to do for me, unfortunately.

  • +1

just worked for me finally! Good luck!

  • +3

    Another launcher dear god

    • Free is Free

    • lol, calm down, big whoop!

  • +2

I logged in and tried hitting the REDEEM button every couple of minutes. Eventually, I got:

    SUCCESS!
Thank you for redeeming your The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind code. Please install the Bethesda.net Launcher

    Just keep trying guys!

  • +1

I've already got 3 copies so don't need another one, but great game great post so have a +

  • Finally able to download too.

  • +1

    Back in business!
Bethesda Support on twitter just said chill and try periodically.

  • N'wah!

    So many well spent hours…

  • Fixed, thanks legends

  • Thanks OP. This was the first ES game I played and also the first ES game I preordered. I told the guy at Kmart it was like an adult version of Zelda and it would be a big game. He disagreed.

  • +2

The storyline in Morrowind was better than Oblivion and Skyrim IMO (though they are great games as well).

This one was the most immersive for me. Spent hours exploring the world, dungeon crawling, artifact hunting, reading the books for lore, just for the pure joy of it all.

Don't know how dated it will be now, but with mods, it's worth a shot for $0.

    • Remaster it for psvr. Id buy a vr for this game lol

  • is this the HD rerelease?

    • Everything on PC is HD, but no.

  • Just realised have to install Bethesda launcher to play this, no thanks

    • What are the issues with their launcher? I don't have it, but is considering downloading it, so would like some insight as to why I shouldn't. Thanks.

  • Nice! I haven't played Morrowwind before.

  • Yeah, tapped button for 2 mins and it was eventually successful
