I have had this issue for my iphone for years on my iPhone 7 Plus, very certain months my songs get deleted randomly, updating IOS doesn’t solve the problem and what I found with a google search seems to be the case of a bug that Apple refuses to fix, and it has nothing to do with storage optimisations. Any clue how to stop this glitch it takes up so much time and data re download everything, all I wanted was to listen to some of my fav songs, stupid apple!

Is your iPhone set to auto sync with a library, iCloud sync, or 'Manually manage'.
I do use iCloud my Cloud is full and don’t really want to increase my storage. Also I never sync my phone to any computer, this is what I don’t understand how it deletes retain songs, it deleted like 59/70 songs, doesn’t delete it all.
Maybe every time you take a photo it deletes a song as there isn't room for both? Just upgrade, it's like $1 a month
Yea don't worry about iCloud. Sometimes when people first sign up to Apple Music, they forget their iPhone's music library is 'sync'd with their iCloud library. So songs can disappear if they delete songs off their iTunes account, or if shared account. Double check this is OFF https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT204926 ?
You want your music stored locally on phone, not sync'd and using up iCloud storage.
what are you syncing with icloud? If it is photos, you're better off using google photos as there is no limit (up to a certain image resolution)

For me its not letting me delete the default U2 songs. I hate those songs.
Same here I never downloaded U2 and it’s in my list for some reason even after deleted.
Just use Spotify and all your problems will disappear.
Maybe you just have really bad taste in music.
My itunes and iphone are absolutely (profanity). So much so that I have removed itunes off my pc. Things appear, disappear and double up when it used to sync.

Thought I was the only one with this problem. I haven't figured out how to fix it though. Is your music bought through iTunes or are they old MP3s?
All my music is old MP3s and at the end of each month I'll end up losing a couple of songs. When it tries to play them on the music player it'll just skip to the next song. I have an iPhone 6s plus.
All purchased through iTunes m, they delete the ones in my library.
Merged from iPhone 7 Plus iOS 12 Music Keeps Disappearing
For many years my iPhone 7 Plus phone with iOS 12 songs keep disappearing from my play list, I always had to download it again and it’s very frustrating as I thought it would be a bug or something wrong with Apple on their end? My checked my storage as it’s a 256Gb phone and still has over 130GB left which doesn’t make sense, any idea how to fix this?
Is it music you have put on the iPhone itself, or purchased from iTunes?
Do you have another Mac or iOS device that uses the same iTunes password?
Is it just random songs occasionally or all your music?
All of my songs I have over 100 and it leaves only a few and they are paid songs from itunes. It’s always the same ones that are deleted, and I don’t want to update, Apple only tells me to update.
Perhaps you should update.
Just shorten your email address
I read something about this awhile ago, something about if you sign up to Apple Music, any of the songs available on Apple Music are auto deleted from your phone / library. A lot of frustrated comments, that’s all I can recall.
