  • why not getting TP-Link TL-SG108PE for under $100 instead?

    • +7

Because this is unifi switch and it links into your unifi controller to manage every port and with USG, you have DPI over your Transfer via the switch

    • +1

It not a true managed switch. You can easily bypass VLAN with static IP. While Unifi have DHCP guard. Also it doesn't have true support for LAGG. You need the enterprise ones for these features, im not sure the exact model number but is not the one you listed.

    • This is poe+ vs regular poe , I would use this With the ubiquiti unifi pro ac bargains out there

  • Not an amazing deal but still $10-20 off commonly available prices. This is a good little switch. I've got them deployed across several locations. I generally pick them up for $150-160(ex GST).

    • -1

Where are they $177 inc GST?

      • Shop around. You won't find them every day ~$180 but they come around at that price point often enough. If you're patient you can get them for less.

The last lot I got was about a year ago. I picked up 3 of them for ~157 each (inc) from Wireless1 on ebay with a 10% off code. I didn't post it because they didn't have 10 available.

You can't just leave us hanging without a link.

  • I'd probably jump on this, if it were the 16-port rack mounted one.

  • I bought one of those ubiquiti AC lite WAP just before Xmas and it solved all my WiFi issues. I don't use the app with it at all now that it's set up. I was looking at getting some Poe cameras. is a generic switch with Poe ok for my needs or is this one the way to go? Also Any recommendations for cameras?

  • -7

Better off going with this for $164
($13.64 GST + around $14 for delivery - Total should around $164) $150 without GST and delivery.

    or

this for $125 ($11.36 GST + $12 delivery - total cost would be around $137)

    Both @ Kogan

      LOL @ netgear

      • -5

Have you ever heard of Ubiquiti UniFi prior to today?
        I haven't

        • +2

Yes I have UniFi AC Pro, and USG at home, at moment I currently looking for 24 port to replace my HP Switch.

Wouldnt touch Netgear with a long pole anymore, they cause nothing but pain. UniFi is enterprise grade with consumer pricing.

          You mustn't get out much

@asa79: I only deal with Cisco things nowadays :^)

            • +5

@CC123: So you only deal with cisco and your recommending netgear, sounds like you know your stuff ;)

              • -1

                @asa79: I don't think a Cisco POE switch is this cheap…
If you want to continue this, DM me since this is going offtopic in a way

                • @CC123: I have a cisco switch in the lounge room for the TV and Game consoles. Not POE and no management feature.

                  https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/Networking-Wired/Gigabit… $185.00 for 8 port POE cisco

                  • @asa79: While Cisco's SG product line is Cisco branded it's a product with lineage from their Linksys acquisition. Most of the SG's are newer versions of what were the SRW range. So not a real Cisco.

                    • @Rockets84: and the price is higher then the UniFi, and the UniFi has all the management features

    • +1

Good if you're not looking to hook up Ubiquiti devices.

    • I would go TP Link before touching netgear

  • Any good deal for POE+ switches by any chance?

    • $185.00 for 8 port POE cisco if you dont want any smarts

  • Can anyone recommend an 8 port POE switch to use for my home lab. Needs to be gigabit. POE will be to power my AP and the other 7 will be used for testing gear.

    • If it doesn’t need to be managed just grab anything. If you want managed get an HPE switch. If you only have one PoE device you may be better off just using an injector, esp if you already have enough ports.

      • That's what I was thinking. I'm already using a Poe injector for the AP but I want to mount it to the ceiling so would rather it get power straight from the switch. I might just grab a tp-link unmanaged Poe switch and be done with it. I'm using a wifi router with openwrt with the wifi radio disabled. It's just acting as a switch without POE. My firewall does all the dhcp and routing.

    • If you only need 4 ports of POE, then what about the one for this deal? I have 2 and they work well powering my Unifi Access Point and Unifi Cloud Key. I will also use it to power my Raspberry Pis when I get some time.

  • This is a pretty cheap price for the POE 8 port

Got one from OW last year for around $15 I think…

    • If it was POE… you got a bargain!

      • Quite a few OzBargainers got this bargain…

        it was only 100Mbps though…

        DES-1008PA

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/391136

        • And only 4 ports with PoE.

          • @Clear: you could've bought 2 for $30

            • @jv: True. Still 100mbps and not configurable via Unifi controller ;)

        • Thats as bad as buying a 10/100 hub

          • @asa79: Unless it's for cameras ;)

          • @asa79:

Thats as bad as buying a 10/100 hub

Not for setting up home security onto your NAS

        • Also worth mentioning that the switch you bought is 48V type (Cisco) and this switch is 24V (Ubiquiti) Best not to get them mixed up!!

  • Fanless is great. I thought I scored with a ubiquiti 24 port 250w and 24 port 500w for total $650 (second hand) but they're too noisy for me. At least I'll sell them for a profit

Hopefully the 8 port 150w will be enough ports in the end

Replace the factory fans with Noctua NF-A4x20 FLX fans, makes a big difference. The UniFi fans are terrible. If going the Noctua's get the 20mm deep and not the cheaper 10mm as the 20mm are quieter than the 10mm.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7ALeXoBGh0 US-24 & US-24-250W Setup w/Fan Replacement

      • Thanks peeps. Not sure i want to spend $100pp, that's alot!

      • @asa79 In that video Chris from Crosstalk used the wrong 10mm deep Noctua fans. He also cut out the fans grills etc. He made a new video where he used the correct ones which I suggested and they were much quieter. Original fans were 65-67db, the 10mm Noctua were 69-71db and the 20mm Noctua were 43-45 db.

        His updated video: https://youtu.be/Xgve6mVAD-U

        • Cool, Thanks will check it out
