Warranty on Second Hand Samsung Galaxy Buds Purchased off Gumtree

Hi guys, I'm looking at purchasing a set of galaxy buds off of gumtree. I've had experience with the previous version gear iconx and have had to take them back and get a new set as they broke.

Therefore when buying the galaxy buds I have asked the seller for a receipt however they say they got their phone on a plan and cannot provide me with a receipt. I read on Samsung's website that a receipt is required to claim warranty but still want to get opinions on if I would be able to claim warranty without a receipt or what receipt I could even get from the seller? Thanks

    No receipt no warranty

    • What receipt could I even get though? Seller is telling me it's on a plan and he only has a receipt for his s10 (which he wont give me) and a delivery docket

So the buds were included with the phone? Then you need the phone receipt or a copy of it. If you are saying that it was an additional accessory for an additional cost per month then it is a bit more difficult as you probably need to go back to the company that services the plan for warranty

Even if you had the receipt from the previous owner, its not transferrable. Only way to get a warranty is if you purchased it. Buying off gumtree is the risk you take for buying second hand or even if new item. That's why you want it cheap.

Are they brand new in box? Because second hand ear buds sound a bit gross.

  • Get a copy of the invoice and use it for a remedy directly from Samsung.

  • They were part of the phone purchase, not a seperate item when he bought (earbuds were a free accessory that he is now trying to make some money from).

It’s like any phone you bought that had headphones, there was no extra receipt and the warranty is all part of the original phone warranty.

You will be buying without warranty so make sure the price relates to that. (Meaning at least half the price of retail)

    • Okay thanks, I'm buying for 150 and retail is 250. 150 is the absolute lowest people are selling them for though.

      • Probably better off buying new then put waiting for an ebay % off deal. If the second hand ones break at > half the price you'll be worse off than having bought new.

  • read on Samsung's website that a receipt is required to claim warranty but still want to get opinions

    Already read… But still…

  • zero warranty

Guys, the ACCC says the warranty ‘is’ transferable to a second hand purchaser of goods. I had this with a second hand Apple Watch I purchased with a bad battery. In the end Apple didn’t even ask for the invoice when I told them it was on an Optus contract (which it is, just not mine).

TBH it’s very unlikely you will need to use a warranty on brand name electronics, possibly look at changing your contents insurance to cover it if it is a concern.

    • Great info, exactly what I was after. Thanks mate.
