New/Refurb Laptop Purchase Help!

Hi ozbargainers!

Been on here a while checking laptop bargains out (several months now)
Was looking for something like Reddit's suggest a laptop, since there seems to be a lot of members here who know their sh!t and take the time for considered responses.
(If that's you, thankyou in advance, readers like me really appreciate it.)

Current thoughts:
I almost pulled the trigger on that refurbed dell latitude the other day, seems like the right one for me?
I've lusted after the H matebook but I think the new 13in one is the go (bit expensive tho)
XPS 13 looks great but not good value.
Surface looks cool but seems overpriced and can't get that high ram goodness I need. (Seems bad to fix/upgrade all round)

Seeking a recommendation/thoughts on a model or a specific deal.

It's a desktop replacement, will be my new main machine.

I do lots of big file graphics work (Corel mostly, plus general office/photo editing/Wix/media consumption. Maybe some light video editing/maybe some light gaming.)

I believe my requirements are as below (sort of in order)

  1. A stupidly good bargain/discount.
  2. Small (13/14in), not heavy, good battery, reliable, fixable.
  3. Ram and the faster SSD port. (Minimum ram/SSD levels is fine for purchase but want it to be upgradeable to 16gb/32gb and a big fast SSD)
  4. Don't think I need 4k, but a 'nice' screen and a good keyboard are important.
  5. USB c charging I think is necessary… A couple of USB ports for my Wacom + mouse is ideal. (I hate trackpads more than anything)
  6. I use a Wacom so stylus/touch screen not required (but maybe comes in handy/would be cool?)
  7. Video card not really important, the Corel work I do benefits from ram and hard drive more than anything.

As you can see I'm paralysed by choice and info overload but at least I think I've figured out requirements.

Which laptop deal for me?

Thanks for reading :)

  • I like the IBM yoga series laptop with the touch screen I would highly recommend you that however price is pretty high but for what it is I think it's worth it. My wife has the yoga 260 from work and I got to admit it has been very reliable and battery is still strong after 3 year's.

I've got an oldish Dell xps 13inch and it's still going strong but it doesn't have touch screen so wouldn't recommend it for what you use it for but can also vouch that Dell is a good brand.

  • I've had similar requirements for my new lappy and had to compromise on certain things. Had to sacrifice/change the screen size as small and powerful are not words that go together. 480/490 or XPS 15 is where its at.
