I just don't get it when people buying VB, Melbourne Bitter, xxxx etc mass produced swill. Why don't they try something better? ie Cooper Sparkling Ale or Stout? Even original Ale is passable and not much more expensive.

Mine would be Leffe, Weihenstephan for under $3/standard drink, it's ozbargain here not ozbogan.
Maybe because vb was my first beer, and grew up on the stuff, but I prefer it to over any of the beers you mentioned.

Coopers is gross lol, why do people always recommend buying coopers beers over VB or XXXX. Great northerns, carlton dry or iron jack would have been a better suggestion.
+ Cooper's is owned by bigots.. they might be one of the last major Australian owned beers but I still refuse to buy it. E.g. they got involved in the ssm survey for some reason, as if a beer company needs to be aggressively against it

It was an ad featuring MP's Andrew Hastie and (gay) Tim Wilson, where they both politely discussed their opinions on gay marriage,before agreeing to disagree while still enjoying their beer together.
Yet the gay marriage types still heckled and threatened Coopers so much they were forced to withdraw the ad.
So yeah, "aggressive" was it, on Coopet's part……

I have no idea if it sells to a younger base but my mother and friends of my parents actually prefer vb.

I found VB to be terrible when I was younger but now that I'm in my 30s I found my palate has changed to more bitter things so I really enjoy VB now
I drank it when I was younger. didn't drink it for 20 years until a few months ago when i tried it again and couldn't finish the stubby. maybe a bad beer? but it was genuinely horrible.
Maybe try it in a glass, cans/stubbies… the last bit of backwash, defoamed part grossed me out lol
