Will take to Bunnings to have with my $1 snag with onions not on top

Had two of them today. It's an amazing coincidence that I was thinking that it would have been good to wash them down with some grange. I drink mine straight from the bottle rather than a decanter so no deal for me.

"delicately aerate the wine"? Hah. Can get a sodastream for $69 at Kmart that will do the job much better.

public announcement from a wine snob
Seriously though - truly pointless combination before even taking into consideration the look of the decanter. This is for people who collect things. The 2013 will not be ready for drinking for another couple of decades or more. If you aerate a wine it is generally to either try to get rid of bad smells or more likely try to make it taste a little older but without some of the delicate nuances you get from actual age. If you want to drink/enjoy Grange, then spend a fraction of this on a 25 year or older bottle from, say, the 80's or 90's (eg https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_912954/penfolds-gra…). After buying, before drinking let it stand upright in a quiet cool area away from vibration for a week or so. Then decant it (into any glass container - something nice and plain from the likes of Krosno eg https://www.kitchenstyle.com.au/krosno-vinoteca-decanter-wit… is fine but heck another clean bottle is just as good - check online on how to properly decant old wine) to prevent any crust that's been deposited in the bottle from getting into your drinking glasses. That is why you decant wine. Anyone talking about aerating wine should be treated with suspicion, and handy little funnels designed to aerate wine as you pour should be placed in the same drawer that contains the k-tel bottle cutter you used to use to make wine goblets.

    • Sodastream is one way to turn a crap tasting wine into a sparkling to make it slightly more palatable lol Even though you are only meant to put water into the bottle to aerate first. I've even put vodka into the sodasteam…that was interesting. It changed the flavour for the worse though.

    • Well, Sodastream won't aerate the wine but instead carbonate it. For anyone so interested, try to carbonate red wine using a sodastream (or similar) set up. Be prepared for the liquid to bubble over and fizz uncontrollably all over the kitchen. It's quite amusing when people try to make 'sparkling wine'.

  • I'll stick with my Passion Pop Original
    Bargain at $4.95

Bet it goes well with that iPhone-XS of yours.
I'll stick with my $3.99 Gossips sweet lips Moscato… Snob.

  • +2

I am just not sure, it is so hard to pass on a bargain. Should I get a bottle or pay the mortgage next week?

    • +2

It's a tough choose for sure. Just remember that even if you skip your mortgage payment this week, it'll still be there the next.
      This probably won't be.

  • +1

I'm arranging a group buy if any one is interested.
I'm after 75 buyers $26.67 each and we each get 10ml.

    • Don't forget to grab a children Panadol on the way to your meetup, syringe comes in handy.

      • How do you split the decanter?

        • ill take the fragment with the smoothest edges

  • Who will take the Saint-Louis Aevum Crystal Decanter at the end? LOL

  • According dan murphy, those that enjoyed the grange might also like the 90 point Ros e.

  • The 2013 Grange is excellent and the decanter is great to play with (I've had both), but honestly it's a massive load of… well… simply not worth $2k to anyone who still counts money.

The weirdest thing is watching wine slosh around in the decanter while being worried that someone may spin it a little too gingerly and tip it over. Apparently the claim is the decanter is special and delivers more flavour to the wine. That's what the Penfold's cellar door staff are told to say to customers. Quite honestly a $30 decanter from ALDI does exactly the same thing.
