  • Is this the cheapest the hard drives have ever been?

    • +1

just looking through my emails, I paid $297.60 22 May 18 for the same 8tb HDD from the same seller.

Same seller but this listing is selling 8TB for $375 ($3 cheaper).
Discount as per OPs post still applies.

    • thanks, updated!

8TB drives use twice the power of 4TB drives. You are much better off with the 10TB helium drives which use much less power, and the lower resulting heat.

    • and how much are they compared to the power consumption?

    • 10tb helium drives are definitely more attractive, with users reporting lower power consumption and noise, but the price per TB goes way up and the 4-8tb range is still very attractive from a value perspective.

      • There was some recent good Amazon pricing posted here. But as always the best pricing has been to grab them from external drive sales.

  • Ordered the Xbox control. Got tired of waiting for another $50ish deal. Knowing my luck, there's going to be a $50 deal next week.

    • I'm waiting for it to drop too but no urgency. Thanks for taking one for the team!

  • What's the best size for value for money? I read somewhere it was the 4TB drives?

    • It fluctuates a bit. I think generally the 6tb is the best value, but 4 and 8tb are typically close. Value goes way down below 4tb and above 8tb. That said, it depends a lot if you need less drives (e.g. fit in a NAS)

  • Is this good for using in a normal PC (Not NAS)?

    • Perfectly fine.

  • Ordered qnap ts-453be for $560
