Xiaomi Mi 9 Global Version SD 855 6GB 64GB AU $693.61 (US $499) + Shipping @ Giztop

Hi

I've been looking out for a good phone for a while (checking the mobile phone deal page on ozbargain multiple types a day for a very long time now, it was doing my head in) and came across this deal from Giztop. I haven't purchased from them before but have done so now, using Paypal. But the deal looks to be a bargain, for flagship from 2019 with SD 855, 6GB RAM, B28, NFC, and AMOLED. Giztop also claims to be offering a 2-year warranty, not sure how useful this will be.

There is a notch and you can't expand the memory, but i can live with that. Keen to hear your thoughts. You could also get the mi mix 3 at this price for those wanting a phone without a notch.

Looks like a great deal - pity it only has 64G non expandable storage. I will hang onto my trusty Galaxy Note 3 for a little longer and see what other phones come out in the next few months.

    • Galaxy S9 price should drop a little in the coming months and it's a great phone in the $700-800 range. I have an S8 plus since release day (Mar 2017) and it's still running strong.

      • Yep, S9 definitely a strong contender in my eyes. I do like the robustness of Samsung phones - my Note 3 is still serviceable after all these years. That's the reason I am in no hurry :)

    • I miss my ol' Galaxy Note 3, it crapped out unfortunately

  • Nice, but the better buy would be a Oneplus 6 for $140 cheaper with Headphone Jack / 128gb storage etc.
Snap 845 vs 855 isn't a big difference. Depends what features a person needs at the of the day

yeah thats my plan. cant forget that it also has dash charging as well

      • Dash Charge isn't necceasirly an advantage as Quick Charge is more universal. This phone supports QC 4.0+ so it'll support both USB-PD 27W and QC 3.0

        • It is when the charging are superior compared to well anything else. I assume it also supports power delivery and QC.

          • @cerealz: No, Dash Charge does not support QC nor USB PD. It'll just be charging slowly

            • @HaveANiceDay: Ahhh that's very interesting. Guess I'll have to buy double the amount of chargers for me to get by though usually I'm fine after a quick charge

Getting downvoted haha. People are sour these days when the truth hits

    • According to the web (https://www.xda-developers.com/qualcomm-snapdragon-855-snapd…), it is about ~20% difference. Also, buying last year's tech is cheaper but we also lost one year of support/upgrade.

      • Have a look at real world tests for app opening etc. on Youtube - Hardly a difference.
Support's not an issue as Oneplus release their Kernel sources so Rom's are amazing. Even the Oneplus One released 5 years ago is running the latest Android Pie

where would you be getting the Oneplus 6 for that price?

      • Ebay with 10% Coupon

  • I've had a look at this phones specifications at https://ozmiui.com/device-specifications/
Under network bands it doesn't support B42. Can anyone comment on the importance of this? It looks that Optus supports this band?

    • AFAIK, they do not.

    • Band 42 has not been rolled out and is currently just being tested.

  • Be careful buying this one as you may need to wait a long time to get it.
Mi 9 sales in China has been pulled/stopped due to quality control and production problem, should be on sale on 15th March, but pulled.
No further date has been given

  • FYI, no confirmation email after about 3 hrs (except from paypal). Gamble at its best @_@

  • Can anyone comment on the software? Bought a Xiaomi many years ago and it had a tonne of bloatware. Been looking for a reason to get rid of my S8 (software sucks).

    • It does has bloatware, but not much running at the back. But the Global version has ads, e.g. after cleaning the cache files, it pops up some ads. But not as annoying as those ad-supported free games.

      • In my experience, the global version did not have ads at all. It seems like only India and China have ads.

    • Have a poco and nothing too bad. It's a similar experience to plain android other than having some apps that cant be removed.

Recent Xiaomi owners have reported finding malware installed in their Xiaomi phones.
Now that is software you really dont want.
Other than that the software is quite good and the interface is much like iOS. i.e. No app draw and includes Find my Phone, Xiaomi Cloud lock and a softer screen night time setting.

      • Could you show a source please?

  • Is the on-screen fingerprint sensor gimmicky? Or is it a legit feature now?

    • It is a feature. The camera under the screen takes a photo of the user's fingerprint when the user presses the finger on the screen.
But it is not working as good as the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor on S10.

Xiaomi phones are just a glorified Chinese phone despite the great looking specs.

I just bought a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4x Global edition hailed by the expert reviewers as a great phone with a good Sony camera.

But I fould a heap of undisclosed problens with it as follows:

1 Australia and NZ not included in the region selection which is very limited itself hence potential problems with apps.
    2. The Sony camera which was supplied in the test phones given to the reviewers was not present in the factory model I purchased. In fact no brand came up at all and my test photos are were ordinary compared with the experts test photos
    3. Battery usage and control is all over the place with many users experiencing battery issues after as little as 2 weeks use.

Basically you are buying a Chinese phone and you just dont know what the Chinese are putting inside them. Reportedly even spyware and malware

So from my short experience stay well away for Xiaomi smartphones.

    • Yes, I had Redmi Note 3 Pro SE in its day and despite all the Xiaomi circle jerking it was average.

      • +4

Redmi is the budget version of their line. You are paying for what you get.

        • +1

Couldn't agree more. I bought my dad a Redmi note 3 SE for 170AUD delivered (he loved it). I don't know why anyone would expect it to be the bee's knees.

          • @iamblaq: Read my complaints. These are BASIC issues that should not occur with any phone regardless of price.
No complaints whatsoever about its software and performance

        • -2

No excuse for not including Australia in region selection
No excuse for swapping out the Sony camera fitted to the review test model with a "no brand" camera fitted to the production model
No excuse for battery issues on almost new phones
And if you check the specs the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4x is supposedly a high spec phone.
Then there is the malware discovered on new Xiaomi phones.

Problem that I have found is you just cant trust Chinese phone manufacturers.

But then again Samsung has been known to actively swap out the Sony camera supplied in test models given to reviewers with their own Samsung camera in the production models.
With Samsung phones though its difficult to pick any difference in camera performance - espsically in the Galaxy S7 line.Yes you can get either the samsung camera or the Sony camera in the Samsung Galaxy S7.
I know because I have 2 of them and each has a different camera!

Good old AIDA64 is a tell-all app when it comes to phone specs.

          • @HeWhoKnows: The Redmi Note 4X does not have high specs at all. It has a Snapdragon 625. It was a midranger phone. Also did you get the global version?

          • @HeWhoKnows: Xiaomi never releases its phone in Australia or Mars, thus it does not have these regions.
China is very good at mixing business, economic with politic.

    • The Sony camera which was supplied in the test phones given to the reviewers was not present in the factory model I purchased. In fact no brand came up at all and my test photos are were ordinary compared with the experts test photos

Sony does not make the camera or the lens, they make the sensor.

  • Is there a significant difference between this (Global Version) and the SE? Main things I can see are slightly smaller screen, different processor and lower quality camera, but otherwise seems comparable. For a $130 USD ($183 AUD) price drop the SE seems alright? What are thoughts?

    • where are you seeing it for that price the code doesn't work for me.

    • Pretty much. The smaller size and weight is the biggest positive for me. And the 48mp main camera is the one that matters.

If you want a mid range phablet with similar specs and camera, there are many other options like Redmi Note 7 Pro, Honor V20, Huawei Nova, Vivo V15.

    • +1

The SE is a brilliant looking phone and it's what I've been waiting for.

The fact that it's listed as "in stock" on giztop makes me very suspicious about the site.

No global version has been officially announced by Xiaomi (I think the SE models are usually branded "lite" outside China/India) or released yet.

The latest news is that they listed it on a global compliance page which suggests a global version is coming. If you search the model they list on giztop, the only result is the giztop page.

    • The SE misses out on band 28. I'll probably still get it over the Mi 9 because I much prefer a smaller phone (still using my Mi 5, and Mi 9 SE feels like a good upgrade).

  • 128 gb modeldelivered to Melbourne for 547 usd = 770 aud no gst
But another option is to buy via Ali express. 128 gb version
    523 usd +13usd shipping +53 usd gst= 589 - 30 usd (using this deal starts 28/03 tommorow https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/446465) =559 usd = 786 aud
Also 5 percent cashback with shopback (26usd approx) +trs eligible(53usd) makes it approximately 786-112= 674 aud for 128 gb

  • Did anyone end up ordering this? If so did it ship? Just wondering if they have stock.

    • I received my phone yesterday. They had stock issues with the 64gb version, it's back in stock now.
They also screwed up the total order, they didn't send the screen protector i ordered with the phone.

      I'd order from someone else.

      • Thanks, I ordered and it's ok backorder atm. Thinking of canceling to see what the poco f2 looks like hmm.

  • Warning for anyone buying this.

    I got my phone, yep.

All of the accessories? Nope. They won't even send them, each email they said "sorry we may get our staff to resend today and give tracking number".

A week later - WTF? Why are they even saying "resend" they didn't send it to begin with. No tracking on the accessories at all 3 weeks after ordering.

Service is shite but at least I got the phone.
